지금까지 라틴 뮤지션이 영어 앨범을 낸 적은 있어도 영·미 팝 가수가 스페인어로 앨범을 낸 경우는 별로 없다는 점에서 크리스티나의 이번 라틴 앨범은 주목할 만 하다. 아무도 하지 않은 일을 해낸 것이다. 하지만 그녀가 이 앨범을 낸 것은 에콰도르 출신의 아버지를 둔 탓(가령 ''뿌리 찾기'' 같은)도 있겠지만 팝 음악의 주류 중 하나가 된 라틴 팝 대열에 동참해서 다양한 수요를 창출하겠다는 의도로 보인다(그녀는 이 앨범을 위해 스페인어를 하나 하나 배웠다고 한다). 하긴 미국 내의 히스패닉 인구는 미국인구의 약 11%(3천만 명)를 차지할 정도로 비중이 높기 때문에 매력적인 시장임에는 틀림없다.
크리스티나의 라틴 침공을 위해서 특별히 라틴 팝의 최정상 프로듀서 루디 페레즈(Rudy Perez)가 초빙되었다. 훌리오 이글레시아스, 호세 펠리치아노, 루이스 미구엘과 같은 뮤지션들의 작품을 주조해낸 그는 크리스티나를 라틴의 요정으로 탈바꿈시켰다. [Mi Reflejo]에는 6곡의 신곡들과 5곡의 리메이크 곡이 수록되어 있다. 우선 크리스티나는 라틴 팬들을 위해 자신의 히트 싱글들을 모두 배치해 놓는 친절을 잊지 않았다. 첫 트랙 ''Genio Atrapadio''은 자신의 첫 넘버원 곡 ''Genie In A Bottle''의 스페인어 버전이며, ''Come On Over(All I Want Is You)''는 ''Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tu)'', ''I Turn To You''는 ''Por Siempre Tu'', ''What A Girl Wants''는 ''Una Mujer''로 각각 번안했다.

다양성을 내다봤던 크리스티나의 의도는 일단 성공적이다. 이 앨범은 데뷔와 동시에 라틴 차트 정상에 올랐으며, 쟁쟁한 라틴 뮤지션들을 물리치고 지금까지 17주간 1위를 고수하고 있다. 라틴 음악계도 틴 음악의 파고를 거스를 수는 없는 모양이다. 게다가 얼마 전에는 섹시 가이 리키 마틴과의 듀엣 곡 ''Nobody Wants To Be Lonely''가 공개되었다. 이 곡은 예상 밖의 저조한 성적을 기록중인 리키 마틴의 새 앨범 [Sound Loaded]에 추가로 수록될 예정이라고 한다. 라틴 물결을 주도했던 그가 후발 주자인 크리스티나에게 도움을 요청한 셈이 된 것이다. 과정이야 어찌됐든 그녀의 주가가 더욱 치솟고 있는 것은 분명하다. 이 같은 일련의 호재로 인해서 어쩌면 크리스티나의 2집 발매가 더 늦어질 지도 모르겠다.
