Bible Reading - Esther 2:12~23

2:12 Before a girl's turn came to go in to King Xerxes,

소녀의 차례가 되어 크세르크세스 왕에게 들어가기 전에,

she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics.

그녀는 여성들에게 처방된 미용 치료를 12개월 동안 받아야 했는데, 그 중 6개월은 몰약 기름을, 6개월은 향수와 화장품을 사용해야 했다.

2:13 And this is how she would go to the king: 그리고 그녀는 이렇게 왕에게 나아갔다.

Anything she wanted was given her to take with her from the harem to the king's palace.

그녀가 원하는 것은 무엇이든지 하렘에서 왕궁으로 가져갈 수 있었다.

2:14 In the evening she would go there and in the morning return to another part of the harem to the care of Shaashgaz, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the concubines.

그녀는 저녁에는 그곳에 갔다가 아침에는 후궁들을 관리하는 왕의 환관 샤아스가즈의 보살핌을 받으며 하렘의 다른 구역으로 돌아갔다.

She would not return to the king unless he was pleased with her and summoned her by name.

왕이 그녀를 기뻐하고 그녀의 이름을 부르지 않는 한, 그녀는 왕에게 돌아가지 않을 것이었다.

2:15 When the turn came for Esther (the girl Mordecai had adopted, the daughter of his uncle Abihail) to go to the king, 에스더(모르드개가 입양한 소녀, 그의 삼촌 아비하일의 딸)가 왕에게 나아갈 차례가 되자,

she asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the king's eunuch who was in charge of the harem, suggested. 그녀는 왕의 후궁을 담당하던 내시 헤개가 제안한 것 외에는 아무것도 요구하지 않았다.

And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her.

그래서 에스더는 그녀를 보았던 모든 사람들의 호의를 얻었다.

2:16 She was taken to King Xerxes in the royal residence in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

그녀는 크세르크세스 왕의 통치 7년째 되는 해의 열째 달, 테벳월에 왕궁으로 취하여졌다.

2:17 Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women,

이제 왕은 다른 어떤 여인보다도 에스더에게 더욱 매료되었고 

and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. 

그리고 그녀는 다른 어떤 처녀들보다 더욱더 호의와 승인을 얻었다.

So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

그래서 그는 그녀의 머리에 왕관을 씌우고, 그녀를 와스디 대신 왕비로 삼았다.

2:18 And the king gave a great banquet, Esther's banquet, for all his nobles and officials.

왕은 모든 귀족과 신하들을 위해 에스더의 큰 잔치를 베풀었다.

He proclaimed a holiday throughout the provinces and distributed gifts with royal liberality.

그는 모든 지방에 공휴일을 선포하고 왕의 관대한 마음으로 선물을 나눠주었다.

2:19 When the virgins were assembled a second time, 

처녀들이 두번째 모였을 때에 

Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate. 모르드개는 왕의 문에 앉아있었다.

2:20 But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality 

그러나 에스더는 그녀의 가정 배경과 국적을 비밀로 하였다. 

just as Mordecai had told her to do, 모르드개가 그녀에게 하도록 했던 것처럼

for she continued to follow Mordecai's instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up.

그녀는 모르드개가 자신을 키울 때 했던 것처럼 모르드개의 지시를 그대로 따랐다.

2:21 During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, 

모르드개가 왕의 문에 앉아 있던 그 시간 동안 

Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.

문을 지키던 왕의 관리 두 명 빅타나와 테레쉬는 분노하여 크세르크세스 왕을 암살하려고 음모를 꾸몄다.

2:22 But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai.

그러나 모르드개가 이 음모를 알아내고 에스더 왕비에게 알렸고, 에스더는 이를 왕에게 보고하면서 모르드개의 공로를 인정했다.

2:23 And when the report was investigated and found to be true,

그리고 그 보고가 조사 되어 사실로 밝혀지자,

the two officials were hanged on a gallows. 그 두 관원들은 교수대에 매달렸다.

All this was recorded in the book of the annals(연대기) in the presence of the king.

이 모든 일은 왕 앞에서 연대기에 기록되었다.
