Every year on February 21, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism.

The idea of celebrating International Mother Language Day was approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1999.

Languages and multilingualism are recognised as powerful tools for social inclusion and global development on this day. Language is crucial in bringing about change and growth in human civilization.
