저녁노을 앞에 선 인생 편지
A letter from life standing before the sunset

삶이 대단하고 인생이 길 것 같아도 결코 대단한 것도 아니며
긴 것도 아니랍니다. 내가 팔팔하던 그 시절에는 시간도 더디게 가고

세월도 한없이 느리게만 가더니 인생의 반환점 돌고 나니 다가오고

사라지는 그 시간과 세월이 너무 빨라 마치 인생의 급행

열차를 타는듯 했지요.

Life may seem grand and long, but it's neither grand nor long.

 Back when I was in my prime, time seemed to pass slowly,
and the years seemed to pass endlessly, but then, after turning the corner,

 they came and went, and the passing of time and years seemed so swift, 

it was like riding the express train of life.

올라갈 때는 끝없이 먼 길내려올 때는 너무나 빠른 지름길 그것이

바로 인생의 시계이자 삶의 달력이랍니다. 아둥바둥 한눈팔지 않고
죽도록 일만 하고 멋지게, 폼나게, 당당하게 한번 써 보지도 못하고
죽움을 맞이하는 그런 세대들이 지금 우리의 세대라 해도
과언이 아니랍니다.

The endlessly long road up, the incredibly fast shortcut down—that's
the clock and calendar of life. It's no exaggeration to say that

our generation is the one that works tirelessly, never taking its eyes off the road,
and then dies without ever having a chance to show off, show off, or be proud.

위로는 엄한 부모님 공경하고 아래로는 오로지 자식에게 올인하고
그것도 모자라 자식의 그 자식까지 가슴에 안고 어깨 위에 매달면서
온몸이 부셔져라 일만 하면서도 나는 괜찮아하는 그 세대가
지금 우리의 세대 입니다.

They respect their strict parents above them, 

and dedicate themselves entirely to their children. And what's more,

 they embrace their children's children, clinging to their shoulders. 

They work themselves to the bone, yet they claim they're fine. 

That generation is ours today.

인생 여로 지나고 보니 그까짓꺼 정말 별것도 아니고 삶 그까짓꺼도

정말 대단한 것 아니고 길 것 같던 인생 절대로 긴 것도 아니고

어느 순간 뒤돌아보니 황혼여로 산넘어로 기우러 저 가네요.

As I look back on life, I realize it's really nothing special. Life itself isn't that great.
It's really nothing special. The life that seemed so long wasn't that long at all.
At some point, I look back and see that I'm on my way to the twilight,

leaning over the mountain.
