LG Energy Solution still ranked No. 2 global EV battery maker in 2020

LG Energy Solution, a battery company affiliated with LG Group, was the No. 2 global electric vehicle (EV) battery producer this year as of 

November, according to data compiled by SNE Research.

Chinese firm CATL continued to hold the top spot during the same period.

From January to November, LG Energy Solution supplied 26.4 gigawatt hours' (GWh) worth of EV batteries,  accounting for 22.6 percent of the global market, according to SNE. 

That's a decrease from its 24.6-percent market share during the January through September period.

CATL delivered 28.1 GWh in EV batteries during the same period, 

accounting for 24.2 percent of the global market, 

up from 23.7 percent as of the previous month.

LG Energy Solution overtook Japanese battery maker Panasonic in the first quarter of this year, 

largely thanks to its deal to supply batteries to Tesla’s Model 3 as well as other mainstream EV models, 

including Renault Zoe and Audi e-tron. 

The Korean company had been at the top spot globally up until September.

CATL has emerged as a strong player after it also started supplying batteries to Tesla’s Model 3 to be sold in China.
Other Korean battery makers have shown little progress.

Samsung SDI, which accounted for 6.2 percent of the global market share as of September, 

is currently the No. 4 producer in 2020, with 5.8 percent.

The company supplied 6.8 GWh worth of EV batteries. Fifth-ranked SK Innovation’s shares expanded from 4.4 percent to 5.5 percent during the same period, 

having delivered 6.5 GWh worth of EV batteries.

중국 CATL은 같은 기간 동안 계속해서 1위를 차지했다.

SNE에 따르면 올 1월부터 11월까지 LG에너지솔루션(GWH)은 전 세계 시장의 22.6%를 차지하는 26.4기가와트(GWH) 규모의 EV 배터리를 공급했다. 이는 1월부터 9월까지 24.6%의 시장점유율에서 감소한 것이다.

CATL은 같은 기간 EV 배터리로 28.1GWh를 공급해 전월 23.7%에서 세계 시장의 24.2%를 차지했다.

LG 에너지 솔루션은 올해 1분기 일본 배터리 제조업체인 파나소닉을 제치고 테슬라 3 모델은 물론 르노 조, 오디오 트론 등 다른 주요 EV 모델에 배터리를 공급하기로 한 데 크게 기여했다. 그 한국 회사는 9월까지 전 세계적으로 1위를 차지했었다.

CATL은 중국에서 판매될 테슬라의 모델 3에도 배터리를 공급하기 시작하면서 강자로 부상했다.
다른 한국 배터리 제조업체들은 별 진전을 보이지 않고 있다.

9월 현재 세계 시장점유율 6.2퍼센트를 차지하고 있는 삼성SDI는 5.8퍼센트로 현재 2020년 세계 4위의 생산자이다.

그 회사는 6.8 GWh 상당의 EV 배터리를 공급했다. 5위 SK이노베이션의 주가는 같은 기간 동안 4.5GWh 규모의 EV 배터리를 공급하면서 4.4%에서 5.5%로 상승했다.

파나소닉은 22.3 GWh로 3위를 차지했다.
