Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 3:7~13 - To the Church in Philadelphia - A faithful church of little power, Receiving Only Praise from Jesus
Revelation 3:7 – (1) Who holds the key of David, what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open
☞ Revelation 3:7 - "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. (NIV); And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; (KJV); "Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia. This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David. What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open.(1) / (1)Isa 22.22 (NLT)
★ The Son of Man, the Genealogy (or Lineage) of Jesus Christ, the Root and the Offspring of David
○ Jesus Christ has come in the flesh as a human (1 John 4:2, 2 John 1:7). That is why Jesus called himself ‘the Son of Man’ (Matthew 16:13~16). The Son of Man means ‘the greatest person in the world’ and also means Christ as Messiah (John 1:41, 4:25) and the Son of God (Matthew 8:29, 14:33, 16:16).
○ Therefore, Jesus is the ruler of the kings of the earth (Daniel 9:25, Revelation 1:5), the King of kings and the Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16), and he is dressed with a golden sash around his chest (Revelation 1:13). This means that only Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, has the authority to judge the heavens and the earth (Matthew 28:18, John 5:22, 5:27), which indicate the authority and the power.
○ The Genealogy (or Lineage) of Jesus Christ, the Offspring of David - Let's look at the genealogy (or lineage) of Jesus Christ who has come in the flesh as a human. Looking at <Genesis> and the Biblical Chronology of <Bible Matrix ②>, the date from Adam's 20th generation as grandson, Abraham (BC 2166~BC 1991), is consistent with modern historical chronology. And if you look at the genealogy of Jesus Christ in <Matthew> 1:1~17, <Luke> 3:21~38, <1 Chronicles> 1~2 and 3:10~24, there are 14 generations from Abraham to David (reign BC 1,010~BC 970), 14 generations from David to Jeconiah, and 14 generations from Jeconiah to Jesus (BC 6~AD 26 or 27) (Matthew 1:17). At this time, if you think that the first generation is about 50 years, Jesus, the Son of Man, is Abraham's 42nd generation, so 42 generations x 50 years old = 2,100 years, and the birth date of Jesus is BC(B) 6, so the interval between the generations fits perfectly. Therefore, Jesus acknowledged himself to be the grandson of David (Luke 20:41~44), and Jesus is David's 28th generation as offspring.
○ Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David (Ruth 4:22). And it was already prophesied in <Isaiah> 11:10 that Jesus would come out of the root of Jesse.
☞ <Isaiah> 11:10 - In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. (NIV); And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. (KJV)
○ The most important thing in <Revelation> is to judge human beings, and in order to judge human beings, only the Son of Man who has come in the flesh as a human can judge human beings. Therefore, God the Father has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man (John 5:27). That is why Jesus emphasize that he is the Son of David.
○ Only Jesus Christ, the Root of David, can open the scroll sealed with seven seals - I will explain more in detail later, but this becomes clear when looking at ‘The Scroll and the Lamb’ in the Chapter 5 of <Revelation>. It says that the only person who can open (or read) ‘the scroll sealed with seven seals’ is ‘Jesus Christ, the Root of David’ (Revelation 5:5). The scroll sealed with seven seals then leads to the judgement of seven seals that tests humans in the Chapter 6 of <Revelation>. The hero (or protagonist) of this judgment is Jesus Christ, the Son of Man. The protagonist in the entire book of <Revelation> is Jesus Christ, the Son of Man.
○ I will explain it later, this has the same meaning as “I am the Root and the Offspring of David” in <Revelation> 22:16, which is the concluding verse.
