The reading and the lecture discuss different opinions about Pablo Picasso’s art. While the reading suggests that many people disliked his paintings, the lecturer argues that he actually had significant success and many fans.

First, the reading states(says, argues, claims) that Picasso’s work was unpopular because it shows sad and poor people. However, the lecturer (disagrees, refutes) this by mentioning the painting "Boy with a Pipe." Even though it showed a sad, poor boy, it sold very quickly and was recently resold for over $104 million, showing its great popularity.

Second, the reading (claims, states, says, suggests) that his cubist style was strange and unrealistic. On the contrary( On the other hand), the speaker points out that famous art critics, such as Apollinaire, found out Picasso’s talent. This shows that his work was respected by experts of that era.
