N + to V: 후치 수식하여~할,~하기위한 의미가 있다(한정 용법)

They did not have enough money to live on. 그들은 살아갈 충분한 돈을 갖지 못 했다.

He did not have friends to play with. 그는 함께 놀 친구가 없었다.

*the only,the first,-thing + to V

The only thing to do is dream of you.할 수 있는 일은 네 꿈을 꾸는 것뿐이다.

I have nothing to be afraid of. 나는 두려워 할 게 없다.

* be to V: be to 를 will,must,can,shall로 해석한다.예정,의무,가능,의도,운명 등의 뜻으로 쓰인다.(서술용법)

The new foreign policy will be to improve relations with US.

새로운 외교정책은 미국과의 관계를 개선하는 것이 될 것이다.

The meeting is to be held on May 5.그 회의는 5월5일 열릴 예정이다.

The Taliban is to blame for the high number of civilians killed in coalition air strikes in Afghanistan.

탈리반은 아프가니스탄에서 수많은 시민들을 살상한 연합 공습으로 비난받을 것이다.(to blame 에  수동의 의미가 있음)

그는 그 문제를 해결하기 위해 열심히 노력했지만 결국 실패했다.

Know better than to V ~할 정도로 어리석지는 않다

You should know better than to do so.그렇게 (어리석게)행동해서는 안 된다.

You should know better than to go swimming just after a meal.

식사 후 바로 수영해서는 안 된다.
