When my daughter and her family were in town for a visit,

I had a chance to take my son and two sons-in-law out for a “guy” outing.

나의 딸과 그 가족이 우리 사는 곳을 방문했을 때,

나는 아들과 두 사위를 데리고 나가서 “남자”들만의 시간을 보낼 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있었습니다.

We decided that while the ladies were shopping,

we would go to a firing range and practice shooting.

We rented two pistols and took aim at our targets.

While shooting, all four of us discovered

that on one of the firearms the sight was set too low.

If we aimed using that sight, we hit the bottom of the target.

We had to aim high in order to hit anywhere near the bull’s-eye.

여자들이 쇼핑하는 동안에, 우리는 사격장에 가서 사격연습을 하기로 결정하였습니다.

우리는 권총 두 자루를 빌려 표적을 겨냥했습니다.

사격을 하는 동안 우리 네 명 모두는 권총 하나의 가늠자가 너무 낮게 되어 있다는 것을 알게 되었습니다.

우리가 그 가늠자로 겨냥을 하면 과녁의 아랫부분이 맞았습니다.

그래서 과녁의 중심 근처를 맞추기 위해서는 좀 더 높이 겨냥해야만 했습니다.

Isn’t life a lot like that?

If we set our sights too low, we really don’t accomplish all that we can.

Sometimes we have to aim high in order to reach a desired goal.

우리의 인생도 그와 같지 않습니까?

우리가 목표를 너무 낮게 잡으면 우리가 이룰 수 있는 것들을 정말 다 이루지 못합니다.

우리가 원하는 목표를 달성하기 위해서 때로는 높이 겨냥을 해야 합니다.

What should be our aim in life?

How high should we point our ambitions?

Well, since Scripture is our true guide,

we will shoot for nothing but spiritual maturity.

In fact, in Paul’s farewell to the people of Corinth,

he said, “Aim for perfection” (2 Cor. 13:11 NIV).

And we also have the high aim of these words from the lips of Jesus,

“You shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Matt. 5:48).

우리의 삶의 목표는 무엇이 되어야 할까요?

우리의 야망을 얼마나 높이 두어야 할까요?

사실 성경이 우리의 참된 인도자이기에, 영적으로 성숙하는 것이 우리의 유일한 목표가 되어야 할 것입니다.

실제로 바울은 고린도교회 교인들과 작별하는 인사에서 “온전케 되라”(고후 13:11)라고 말했습니다.

또 우리는 “하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 온전하심과 같이 너희도 온전하라”(마 5:48)라고 하신

예수님의 말씀을 따라 목표를 높게 잡아야 합니다.

Perfection is a lofty target, and we won’t attain it in this life.

But if we want to honor God and get close to that high goal,

we need to aim high.

온전함의 경지에 이르는 것은 아주 고결한 목표이긴 하지만,

이 땅에서 사는 동안에는 이루지 못할 것입니다.

그러나 우리가 하나님을 영화롭게 하기를 원하고 그 높은 목표에 조금이라도 가까이 가려 한다면,

우리는 목표를 높이 잡아야할 필요가 있습니다

Hebrews 5:12–6:3

[히] 5:12	In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you t he elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!
[히] 5:13	Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
[히] 5:14	But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

[히] 6:1

Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,

[히] 6:2	instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
[히] 6:3	And God permitting, we will do so.

[히] 5:12	때가 오래 되었으므로 너희가 마땅히 선생이 되었을 터인데 너희가 다시 하나님의 말씀의 초보에 대하여 누구에게서 가르침을 받아야 할 처지이니 단단한 음식은 못 먹고 젖이나 먹어야 할 자가 되었도다
[히] 5:13	이는 젖을 먹는 자마다 어린 아이니 의의 말씀을 경험하지 못한 자요
[히] 5:14	단단한 음식은 장성한 자의 것이니 그들은 지각을 사용함으로 연단을 받아 선악을 분별하는 자들이니라

[히] 6:1	그러므로 우리가 그리스도의 도의 초보를 버리고 죽은 행실을 회개함과 하나님께 대한 신앙과
[히] 6:2	세례들과 안수와 죽은 자의 부활과 영원한 심판에 관한 교훈의 터를 다시 닦지 말고 완전한 데로 나아갈지니라
[히] 6:3	하나님께서 허락하시면 우리가 이것을 하리라

O to be like Thee, blessed Redeemer, This is my constant longing and prayer; Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures, Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. Conversion is the miracle of a moment; maturing takes a lifetime.

내 모든 소원 기도의 제목 예수를 닮기 원함이라 예수의 형상 나 입기 위해 세상의 보화 아끼잖네 거듭남은 순간의 기적이지만 성숙은 평생의 시간이 걸린다.
