비록 착하다 하더라도 작다 하여 행하지 않고,

  Even if an act is good, refraining from doing it because it is small,

비록 惡(악)하다 하더라도 크지 않다 하여 행하는 것은

  and evil if an act is evil, committing it because it is not large―

이 역시 應(응)하는 것도 작기는 하지만 가히 경계하지 않을 수 없는 것이다.

  though the retribution corresponding to it may also be small,

  this is surtly something one must be wary of.

雖善이나 以其小不爲하고 (수선이나 이기소불위하고)

  Although an act is good, one does not perform it because it is samll;

雖惡이나 以其不大爲之하니 (수악이나 이기부대위지하니)

  Although an act is evil, one commits it because it is not great.

此亦應之小者라 可不戒哉아 (차역응지소자라 가불계재아.)

  This, too, brings a samll retribution ―how sould one not be cautions of it?

善(선)은 작은 것을 모아 평원을 이루고 산을 이루는 것이다.

  Goodness accumulates samll things to form plains and build mountains.

惡(악)도 마찬가지로 작은 것이 모여 평원을 이루고 산을 이룬다.

 Evil likewise accumulates samll things to form plains and build mountains.
