♥ 부자(富者)가 되기보다는 잘사는 사람이 되세요(Rather than being rich, be a well-off person) ♥

우리는 부자(富者, rich)로 잘 살아야 합니다. 그런데 부자란 무슨 뜻입니까. 재산(財産, property)은 인연(因緣, relationship)에 의해 내게 맡겨진 것이지 내것이 아닙니다.(We have to live well as rich. By the way, what do you mean by rich? Property is left to me by fate, not mine.)

어려운 이웃과 나눠 가지며 덕(德, virtuegoodness)을 닦는 사람이 바로 부자(富者, father and son) 요 잘사는 사람입니다.(It is the rich and well-off who share their virtues with their neighbors in need.)

"연말이 되니 잘 산 한해인지 잘못산 한해인지 되돌아보게 되더라." "세월은 가는 것도 오는 것도 아니다."("At the end of the year, I looked back on whether it was a good year or a bad year." "Time does not go or come.")

사람과 사물(事物, things), 현상이 그 세월 속에서 오고 갈 뿐이다. 해가 바뀌면 어린 사람은 한 살이 늘지만 나이 든 사람은 한 살이 줄어든다. (People, things, and phenomena come and go in those years As the years change, the younger person gets a year older, but the older person gets a year younger.)

되찾을 수 없는 게 세월이니 시시한 일에 시간을 낭비(浪費, waste) 하지 말고 순간순간을 후회(後悔, regret) 없이 살아야 한다.(Time is what cannot be recovered, so you should not waste time on trivial things and live every moment without regret.)

"탐욕(貪慾, rapacity)이 생사 윤회(生死 輪廻, a life-and-death cycle)의 근원이요, 탐욕은 끝이 없다. 많이 가지면 행복한가." "행복은 밖에서 오는 것이 아니라 마음에서 향기(香氣, fragrance)처럼 우러 나오는 것." (Greed is the root of life and death, greed knows no bounds. Is it happy to have a lot?" "Happiness does not come from outside, but from the inside like a scent.")

마음을 맑게 하고 주위를 둘러보는 향기로운 삶이 행복이요 잘사는 것이다. "로또 복권(Lotto Lottery)에 당첨되면 다 부러워하지만 당사자는 그날부터 불행(不幸, unhappy)해 지는 수가 많다."(A life that clears your mind and looks around you is happiness It's a good life. "I'm envious of winning the Lotto Lottery, but many people are unhappy from that day on.")

가까운 사람들과 단절(斷絶, severance)되고 열심히 살아온 의미를 잃게되고 잠도 제대로 못자게 되고 횡재(橫財, a  windfall)를 만나면 횡액(橫厄, misfortune:뜻밖에 당하게 되는 재난이나 액운.) 한다는 말도 있다.(There is also a saying that people who are cut off from their close friends and lose the meaning of living hard, can't sleep properly, and when they meet economic disasters, they get rich.)

돈은 혼자 오지 않고 어두운 그림자를 데리고 온다. 이처럼 돈이 오히려 불행(不幸, misfortune)을 불러 오는 것을 막기 위해서 "맑은 가난''을 실천(實踐, practice)해야 한다.(Money doesn't come alone, it brings a dark shadow. In order to prevent money from causing misfortune, we must practice "clear poverty".)

물질적 가난(物質的 가난, material poverty)이 미덕(美德, virtue)은 아니지만 더불어 산다는 뜻의 "맑은 가난(clear poverty)"은 필요하며 살다가 떠나면 무엇이 남는가. 아무것도 남지 않는다.(Material poverty is not a virtue, but "clear poverty," which means living together, is necessary and what remains after living. There's nothing left.)

재산(財産, property)도 지식(知識, knowledge)도 자식마저도 내 것이 아니다. 평소(平素, usual)에 지은 業만 그림자 처럼 따라간다. 오늘의 순간순간이 業이 돼 다음의 나를 만든다. "부자가 되기보다는 먼저 잘 사는 사람이 돼라"(Neither property nor knowledge nor children are mine. He follows his usual work like a shadow. Every moment of the day becomes a job and makes the next me. "Be a person who lives well first, rather than being rich.")
