Do not Consent to Sinners(Proverbs 1 : 8 ~ 19)

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pedants of your neck. My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. If they say, “Come with us lie in wait for blood; let us swallow them alive, and whole, like those who go down to with plunder; throw in your lot among us; we will all have one purse”―my son, do not walk in the way with them; hold back your foot from their paths, for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. For in vain is a net spread in the sight of any bird, but these men lie in wait for their own blood; they set an ambush for their own lives. Such are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust gain; it takes away the life of its possessors.

아이들아, 아버지의 훈계를 잘 듣고, 어머니의 가르침을 저버리지 말아라. 진정 이것은 머리에 쓸 아름다운 관이요, 너의 목에 걸 목걸이이다. 아이들아, 악인들이 너를 꾀더라도, 따라가지 말아라. 그들이 너희에게 이렇게 말할 것이다. “함께 가서 숨어 기다렸다가, 이유를 묻지 말고, 죄 없는 사람을 죽이자. 스올처럼 그들을 산 채로 삼키고, 무덤이 사람을 통째로 삼키듯이, 그들을 통째로 삼키자. 우리는 온갖 값진 것을 얻게 될 것이며, 빼앗은 것으로 우리의 집을 가득 채우게 될 것이다. 너도 우리와 함께 제비를 뽑고, 우리 사이에 돈주머니는 하나만 두자.” 아이들아, 그들이 이렇게 말하더라도, 너는 그들과 함께 다니지 말고, 네 발을 그들이 가는 길에 들어놓지 말아라. 그들의 발은 악으로 치달으며, 피 흘리는 일을 서두르기 때문이다. 무릇, 새가 보는 앞에서 그물을 치는 것은 헛수고이겠거늘. 그들이 가만히 엎드려서 지키고 있으니 제 피나 흘릴 뿐이요. 숨어서 기다리고 있으니 제 목숨이나 잃을 뿐이다. 무릇 부당한 이득을 탐하는 자의 길은 다 이러하니, 재물이 목숨을 빼앗는다.
