영어(English)
The Eleventh Venerable One
Sitting cross-legged and burning incense; his attendant bows his hands, and a foreigner stands holding a box.
The verse says:
The Sages of old and new speak by analogy;
Their words are as simple as grains of rice, yet their intentions are not conveyed. If one gazes at the tip of the nose and finds tranquility, the various roots naturally fall into place;
Who would know that this single stick of incense will become a thousand verses?
A verse:
The sages of the past and the sages of the future enlighten one another with words; their mouths cry out like cuckoos, yet their meaning cannot be conveyed. If one gazes at the tip of the nose and finds tranquility, the various roots naturally close; who would know that this single stick of incense will become a thousand verses? The Twelfth Venerable One
Sitting upright, he entered into meditation within the withered tree; his spirit soared upward, and a great serpent emerged from below.
The verse says:
The one who sits in silence is the form; the one who flies in the air is the spirit. Both are not right; which constitutes this body?
Why do the Buddhists of the world harbor unceasing poison?
May I understand this form; who binds you?
Therefore, I recite this verse:
Sitting silently is the form, and soaring into the air is the spirit.
Both form and spirit are not right; which constitutes this body?
Why do the Buddhists of the world ceaselessly harbor poisonous thoughts? The Thirteenth Venerable One
leanes on a staff and sits at his side with his feet hanging down; an attendant stands holding a box, and as a tiger passes in front, a young boy, frightened, hides and peeks at it.
The verse says:
This is the same as I am; he does not speak to his consort. With a single misstep, it falls like a beast.
The Taoist master grieves and pities it, frowning and lamenting for you.
With your fierce nature, it is not difficult to be reborn.
Therefore, I sing:
This tiger is just like us humans; it does not bite its own mother to death.
However, with a single lapse in thought, it raises its mane and growls.
The Taoist master grieves and pities this, so he frowns and laments for me. Even with your fierce nature, it is not difficult to restore your true nature.
The Fourteenth Venerable, holding a bell and a palanquin, sat upright and chanted incantations; his attendant straightened his robes and sat to his right, while a foreigner with a short, horizontal staff knelt and sat to his left. He had a single horn like a snake, which looked up as if he were pleading. The fourteenth Venerable One, holding a staff adorned with bells, sits upright and recites a mantra; his attendant kneels to the right, and a single-horned snake emerges, appearing as if it is looking up to plead.
The verse says:
That bearded and tangled snake kneels and speaks to itself.
A single horn also appears; its body has moved, and the resentment remains.
Reciting without words and without preaching the Dharma,
The wind stops and the fire extinguishes; thus, there is no form of enemy. In recitation,
That one with the curly mustache sits kneeling with his upper body held high, speaking to himself.
Even a one-horned serpent has come; though the body has changed, the resentment remains the same.
He recites the inexpressible Dharma with a sound that cannot be expressed in words; just as the wind ceases and a fire goes out, the resentment vanishes, and the mind that regards him as an enemy disappears.
The Fifteenth Venerable One, with his beard and eyebrows both white, sits in the lotus position with his arms crossed; the foreigner bows prostrate before him, the barbarian holds a staff in his hand, and the attendant stands with his hands clasped. The verse says:
Having heard the Dharma for the first time and served the Buddha for a long time,
among the aged beings, this person is also an elder.
The firewood, water, well, and mortar are old and incapable,
but one defeats and subdues the demonic army without fighting.
The verse says:
Having heard the Buddha's Dharma for the first time and served the Buddha for a long time, among the aged beings, this person is also an elder. Chopping wood, fetching water, and pounding grain are things one cannot do because one is old, but defeating and subjugating the demon army is a victory achieved without fighting.

Los sabios de antaño y de ahora hablan por analogía;
Sus palabras son tan simples como granos de arroz, pero sus intenciones no se transmiten. Si uno mira la punta de la nariz y encuentra tranquilidad, las diversas raíces se acomodan naturalmente;
