As my wife and I were walking through a shopping mall, we came to a T-shirt stand.

While browsing the shirts and their often humorous sayings,

I noticed one with a disturbing message. It read, “So Many Christians,

So Few Lions.”

That shirt, with its reference to the first-century practice of throwing Christians

to the lions in the Coliseum in Rome, wasn’t at all funny.

아내와 함께 쇼핑몰을 걷다가 티셔츠 진열대 앞에 가게 되었습니다.

셔츠들과 그 위에 쓰여 있는 재미있는 글들을 둘러보던 중,

“너무 많은 그리스도인들, 너무 적은 사자들”이라는 심기를 불편하게 하는 글귀를 보게 되었습니다.

그 셔츠의 문구는 1세기 로마의 콜로세움에 사자들을 풀어놓고

그리스도인들을 던져 넣었던 관행을 기록한 것으로 전혀 재미있는 말이 아니었습니다.

Persecution is no laughing matter.

Not long before those brave Christians faced death in Rome’s cruel sport,

Paul wrote, “All who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Tim. 3:12).

Persecution is inevitable,

and it should be a matter of serious concern for all believers.

In fact, at this very moment fellow brothers and sisters in Christ

around the world are suffering in Jesus’ name.

박해는 웃음거리가 아닙니다. 바울이

 “무릇 그리스도 예수 안에서 경건하게 살고자 하는 자는 핍박을 받으리라”(딤후 3:12)

라고 편지한지 오래지 않아,

그 담대한 그리스도인들은 로마의 잔인한 오락으로 죽음에 직면하게 되었습니다.

박해는 피할 수 없는 일이며, 모든 믿는 자들에게 진지한 관심사가 되어야 합니다.

사실 바로 이 순간에도 세상에는 예수님의 이름 때문에 고통 받고 있는 믿음의 형제자매들이 있습니다.

What can we do about it?

First, we can pray that God will comfort them in their suffering.

Second, we can aid families left without support when loved ones are imprisoned.

Third, we can pray now for courage should we face persecution.

When the apostle Paul was put in jail for his faith,

his courage led others to be bolder in their witness (Phil. 1:14).

우리는 이것에 대해 무엇을 할 수 있습니까?

첫째, 우리는 하나님께 고통 속에 있는 그들을 위로해 달라고 기도할 수 있습니다.

둘째, 사랑하는 이들이 감옥에 갇혀있기 때문에 아무런 지원도 받지 못하는 가족들을 도와줄 수 있습니다.

셋째, 우리가 직면할지도 모를 박해 앞에서도 용기를 달라고 미리 기도할 수 있습니다.

바울사도가 믿음 때문에 감옥에 갇혔을 때 그가 보여준 용기는

다른 이들이 더욱 담대히 주의 말씀을 전하도록 이끌어 주었습니다(빌 1:14).

Want to encourage the persecuted church? Pray.

Then proclaim the message for which believers suffer.

박해받는 교회를 격려하고 싶습니까? 기도하십시오.

그러고 나서, 그들이 그것 때문에 고통당하고 있는 바로 그 메시지를 선포하십시오.

Philippians 1:12-20  

[빌] 1:12	Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.
[빌] 1:13	As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
[빌] 1:14	Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
[빌] 1:15	It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
[빌] 1:16	The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.
[빌] 1:17	The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.
[빌] 1:18	But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
[빌] 1:19	for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.
[빌] 1:20	I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

[빌] 1:12	형제들아 내가 당한 일이 도리어 복음 전파에 진전이 된 줄을 너희가 알기를 원하노라
[빌] 1:13	이러므로 나의 매임이 그리스도 안에서 모든 시위대 안과 그 밖의 모든 사람에게 나타났으니
[빌] 1:14	형제 중 다수가 나의 매임으로 말미암아 주 안에서 신뢰함으로 겁 없이 하나님의 말씀을 더욱 담대히 전하게 되었느니라
[빌] 1:15	어떤 이들은 투기와 분쟁으로, 어떤 이들은 착한 뜻으로 그리스도를 전파하나니
[빌] 1:16	이들은 내가 복음을 변증하기 위하여 세우심을 받은 줄 알고 사랑으로 하나
[빌] 1:17	그들은 나의 매임에 괴로움을 더하게 할 줄로 생각하여 순수하지 못하게 다툼으로 그리스도를 전파하느니라
[빌] 1:18	그러면 무엇이냐 겉치레로 하나 참으로 하나 무슨 방도로 하든지 전파되는 것은 그리스도니 이로써 나는 기뻐하고 또한 기뻐하리라
[빌] 1:19	이것이 너희의 간구와 예수 그리스도의 성령의 도우심으로 나를 구원에 이르게 할 줄 아는 고로
[빌] 1:20	나의 간절한 기대와 소망을 따라 아무 일에든지 부끄러워하지 아니하고 지금도 전과 같이 온전히 담대하여 살든지 죽든지 내 몸에서 그리스도가 존귀하게 되게 하려 하나니

The church of Christ can’t be destroyed, Though many enemies have tried; Whenever persecution comes, The church is spread and multiplied. We find courage to stand when we kneel before the Lord.

많은 적들이 지금껏 시도해 왔지만 그리스도의 교회는 소멸될 수 없네 박해가 올 때면 언제나 교회는 번창하고 왕성해지네 주님 앞에 무릎 꿇을 때 우리는 맞설 용기를 갖게 된다.
