The Lotus Sutra, The Parable of the Phantom City (화성유품 15)

[眞如華]

     15.

    四王諸天      爲供養佛      常擊天鼓      其餘諸天      作天伎樂      滿十小劫      至于滅度      亦復如是      諸比丘      大通智勝佛      過十小劫      諸佛之法      乃現在前      成阿耨多羅三藐三菩提

    여러 사천왕들은 부처님께 공양하기 위하여 항상 하늘의 북을 치고, 그 외에 다른 하늘에서도 하늘의 풍류를 연주하여 십 소겁이 차도록 하였으며 열반하실 때까지 이렇게 하였느니라. 여러 비구들이여, 대통지승불께서는 십 소겁이 지나고 나서 부처님의 법이 앞에 나타나서 최상의 깨달음을 이루었느니라.

    The Four Heavenly Kings as their offerings to the Buddha constantly beat on heavenly drums, while the other heavenly beings played heavenly musical instruments, all for ten small kalpas. Until the Buddha entered extinction, such was the state of affairs. Now, monks, the Buddha Great Universal Wisdom Excellence passed ten small kalpas before the doctrines of the Buddhas finally appeared before him and he was able to attain anuttara-samyak-sambodhi.

               The Four Heavenly Kings; 여러 사천왕들은

               to the Buddha; 부처님께

               as their offerings; 공양하기 위하여

               constantly; 항상

               beat on heavenly drums; 하늘의 북을 치고

               while the other heavenly beings; 그 외에 다른 천신들도

               played heavenly musical instruments; 하늘의 풍류를 연주하여

               all for ten small kalpas; 십 소겁이 차도록 하였으며

               until the Buddha entered extinction; 부처님이 열반하실 때까지

               such was the state of affairs; 이렇게 하였느니라

               Now, monks; 여러 비구들이여

               the Buddha Great Universal Wisdom Excellence

                    ; 대통지승불께서는

               passed ten small kalpas before; 십 소겁이 지나고 나서

               the doctrines of the Buddhas; 부처님의 법이

               finally appeared before him; 마침내 앞에 나타나서

               anuttara-samyak-sambodhi; 최상의 깨달음을

               he was able to attain; 이룰 수 있었느니라
