Ipdong, or Beginning of Winter
Jang Moon Seok
Now is the time
When we all come back to our places;
Dropping far away the flourishing consonants of a season,
Selecting some glaring skeletons of vowels,
We should stand firm like a lindera glauca.
The high north-east wind at once wipes my eyelids
Above the sky a group of wild geese looking like letters in flight,
Piercing and flying through the sky with a single brushstroke.
Now is the time when we ought to light candles till late night.
Tap, tap, tap
Tapping on our annual rings
Now is the time when we ought to write a diary.
We, walking into it,
Have to listen to the sound of silence,
Now is the time.
