카카오가 올해부터 3년간 카카오톡을 이용하지 않은 계정에 대해 탈퇴 처리하고 개인 정보도 파기한다. 통신사, 쿠팡 등에서 해킹 사고가 잇따르면서 개인 정보 유출 우려가 커지자, 장기 미사용 계정과 관련된 처리 기준을 정비한 것이다.

7일 카카오 관계자는 “기존에는 1년간 카톡을 이용하지 않는 경우에는 휴면 계정으로 전환해 개인 정보를 분리 보관한 뒤 총 4년간 로그인하지 않으면 탈퇴 처리하고 개인 정보를 파기했다”면서 “그러나 이달 12일부터는 3년간 카카오 계정을 이용한 기록이 없는 계정을 탈퇴 처리하고 개인 정보를 파기한다”고 말했다.

카카오톡을 장기간 이용하지 않는 가입자의 정보 보관 기간이 이번 규정 변경으로 기존 4년에서 3년으로 단축됐다. 업계 관계자는 “국내에서 최근 잇따른 해킹 사태에 카카오가 휴면 계정의 개인 정보를 장기간 보관하는 것에 부담을 느낀 것으로 안다”며 “개인 정보 유출에 대한 우려도 고려한 결정으로 보인다”고 말했다.

앞서 지난해 쿠팡과 넷마블 등에서 발생한 해킹 당시 쿠팡, 넷마블의 휴면 계정과 탈퇴 회원 정보가 유출된 사례가 있다.
