Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 3:7~13 - To the Church in Philadelphia - A faithful church of little power, Receiving Only Praise from Jesus
Revelation 3:12 – (1) I will make a pillar in the temple of God the Father
☞ Revelation 3:12 - Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. (NIV); Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (KJV)
(1-1) Pillar in the temple of God the Father – ‘Him who overcomes or those who overcome’ will become a pillar or pillars in the temple of God the Father. Just as the pillars play important roles in supporting the building, the pillars of the temple represent the faithful servants of God who will carry the temple. That's why <Galatians> 2:9 says, “James, Peter, and John, who esteemed as pillars”.
☞ <Galatians> 2:9 - James, Peter and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. (NIV); And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.) (KJV)
(1-2) On the site of the early church in Philadelphia, one church of John the Apostle, believed to have been built in c.AD 600, remains destroyed, but three of the six pillars still remain. No matter how a great earthquake comes, Jesus Christ will make him (who overcomes) a pillar that will not shake and will support the temple of God the Father. [Reference - Baek Mi-Seon - The Story of the Seven Churches ⑥ The Church of Philadelphia (Rev 3:7~13)].
(1-3) At that time, in Roman society, there was a case of honoring the faithful by inscribing the names of those who contributed to the nation on the pillars of the temple [Reference - Happiness Helper - Lecture on Revelation (12) Philadelphia Church (Revelation 3:7~13) ]. Jesus goes further than this and promises to make the one who overcomes (or those who overcome) a pillar (or pillars) in the temple of God the Father.
(1-4) For your reference, looking at the first temple of Jerusalem which King Solomon (reigned BC 970~BC 930) began to build in BC 966 (1 Kings 6:1; 6:37; 2 Chronicles 3:1) and completed in BC 959 (1 Kings 6:38 ), the pillars of the temple were Jakin and Boaz (1 Kings 7:21, Images refer to Bible Matrix ⑦_63).
☞ These were two pillars standing at the entrance as the porch to the Most Holy Place (or Holy of Holies), where LORD God dwells (or stays), and they were 18 cubits high (18 cubits x 45 cm = 810 cm = 8 meters) (1 Kings 7:15).
