📚 Published Series
Vol.1 – Searching for the Forgotten Half in Martial Arts
Vol.2 – Think Out Of The Box through the Haedong Kumdo Training

✒️ Preface
This essay draws upon the two volumes above to explore how the original, integrated flow of life and practice has gradually fragmented throughout human history —and why now is the time to restore that “forgotten half.”
Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo offers a truly integrated martial art system—uniting martial technique, philosophy, and healing.
It represents the first holistic martial philosophy system introduced in the 21st century.

🔍 Why Must We Return to Integration?
1. 🏺 Antiquity – When Life and Practice Were One
Thinkers like Pythagoras, Plato, and Confucius saw humans, nature, and the universe as expressions of one unified principle.
To them, philosophy, martial arts, medicine, art, and meditation were not separate disciplines, but unified methods for living in harmony with the cosmos.
---
2. 🕍 The Middle Ages – Religious Thought Led to Separation
In the West, Christianity’s dominance led to conflict with science, philosophy, and medicine—causing them to fragment.
In the East, ideological divisions between Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism widened the gap between theory and practice.
Thus, integrated training traditions began to fade.
---
3. ⚙️ The Modern Era – The Age of Reason Dismantled Wisdom
Descartes’ Dualism: Separation of mind and body
Newtonian Mechanism: Nature as a machine governed by mathematical laws
These views led to a fragmented view of the human being—as body, mind, and spirit split apart.
Martial arts became mere sport, medicine reduced to physical analysis, and philosophy confined to abstract ideas.
---
4. 🏙️ Contemporary Society – Deepening Fragmentation
Industrialization and digitalization accelerated specialization and compartmentalization.
Philosophy is confined to lecture halls,
medicine to hospitals,
martial arts to gyms,
and meditation to wellness centers.
Each now exists isolated from its original purpose—deeply connected to life.
---
📌 Conclusion
Scientific and cultural developments have brought undeniable progress.
Yet, in the process, the essence of life and its integrated awareness have been forgotten.
It is time we ask:
> “Why must life be so divided?”
“Why should martial arts be learned as technique alone?”
---
⚔️ The Path of Restoration: Rediscovering the Forgotten Half through Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu
Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu offers a practical, embodied path to restore ancient integrated wisdom in modern times.
Through Kimu
(기무, 氣武=>氣舞=>氣無) Practice,
we awaken to the flow of energy (Ki), body, and consciousness.
Through Ssangkum
(雙劍, double sword) training,
we express this flow through the double sword.
This practice unifies technique, philosophy, and healing as one flowing system.
It is not merely martial technique
—it is a way of life:
connecting body and mind, harmonizing with nature.
---
🌱 And We Come to Realize:
> Martial arts are part of human life.
They must become a path of practice.
Life unfolds through the flow of energy—a continual journey of awakening and cultivating love.
At the heart of that path flows Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo.
> This is not simply a restoration of the past.
It is the first integrated realization of its kind in the 21st century—
A grounded, principled system to recover what humanity has lost,
And to offer a holistic, practical alternative for today's world.
Thus, Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu is not just martial art—
It is a path of healing, integration, and living wisdom.

🔚 Closing Words
As the founder of Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo,
I do not claim to have attained anything extraordinary or mystical.
I have simply come to recognize—through my body and my life—
the One Principle by which the world flows.
From this realization,
I have written and published many works:
the two English volumes above,
the five-part Korean series The Right Path of Practice, and more.
Still, books alone are not enough.
So I continue writing and sharing through social media every day.
For nearly 25 years,
I have traveled the world, step by step—
personally visiting communities to share this path.
All of it comes from a single, unwavering wish:
> “True martial arts must become one with human life,
and must align with the principle of nature.”
Flowing along that path is:
Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu Haedong Kumdo.
