Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 3:7~13 - To the Church in Philadelphia - A faithful church of little power, Receiving Only Praise from Jesus
Revelation 3:12 – Never again will he leave it
☞ <Revelation> 3:12 - Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. (NIV); Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. (KJV); I will make those who ·win the victory [overcome; conquer] pillars in the temple of my God [an image of stability and security close to the glory of God], and they will never have to leave it [frequent earthquakes often forced Philadelphians to live outdoors]. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, that comes down out of heaven from my God [the believers’ eternal dwelling place; see chs. 21—22]. I will also write on them my new name.) (EXB)
(1-1) The area of the church in Philadelphia was an active volcanic area with frequent earthquakes, so all the citizens evacuated or moved to safe places, and only the weak remained, but the weak were the Christians of Philadelphia who kept the fertile soil filled with the faith of Jesus in their hearts. In addition, the church in Philadelphia experienced difficulties in living as gentiles in a foreign land after leaving their home country, that was, diaspora. Therefore, Jesus promises the Christians of Philadelphia, saying, “Never again will he leave it”, meaning eternal settlement in ‘The Holy City of New Jerusalem‘.
(1-2) Those who will live in ‘The Holy City of New Jerusalem’, which will be created c.AD 12,900~, shall have no reason to leave the New Jerusalem. Those who will enter the inside of the New Jerusalem will be the kings who will rule the nations outside the New Jerusalem and the people who will live in the nations. They will enter the New Jerusalem with the glory and honor of the nations (Revelation 21:24; 21:26). Those who will live in and enter the New Jerusalem shall have to have their names written in ‘the Book of Life’ that Jesus has (Revelation 21:27).
(1-3) As I will explain later, some will become priests and live in the Holy City of New Jerusalem, while others will live in the nations outside of the New Jerusalem. As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_195>, which introduced "I will repay each of you according to what you have done” in <Revelation> 2:23, this shall be determined according to ‘the law of reward (or repay)’ of Jesus Christ (Revelation 20:12, 22:12).
