Useful Living English - 2 - I’d like to get these pants shortened an inch.

‘옷의 길이를 줄이다’라는 말은 영어로 shorten이란 단어를 써서 표현할 수 있습니다.

그러므로 “바지길이를 1인치 줄여 주세요.”라는 말은

“Can you shorten these pants by one inch?”,

“I’d like to get these pants shortened an inch.”

또는 “I need to get these pants shortened by one inch.”라고 할 수 있겠지요.

반대로 바지의 길이를 늘이고 싶다면

shorten대신 ‘옷의 길이를 늘이다’라는 뜻의 ‘lengthen’을 넣으면 되겠습니다.

I’d like to let the pants out a bit in the waist. 

(이 바지 허리품을 좀 늘이고 싶은데요.)

I can let them out about one inch.

(1인치 정도 늘일 수 있습니다.) 

I need to get this suit dry-cleaned.

(이 옷 드라이를 해 주세요.)
