In this exercise, please pay special attention to the phrasal and
sentence structures. Always bear in mind that a structure
that is natural in English may not be natural in Korean, and
vice versa. So in translating a phrase or sentence, we often find it
difficult to keep the same structure for it in both languages. So
when you work from the Korean Task paragraph, do not
automatically copy the Korean sentence structures into English.
Rather, ask what the best structure is in English to express a
given Korean structure, although the two structures may differ in
form.
Also, be careful about translating word by word, which may
produce an unnatural expression on the English side.
Task paragraph 1
The civilization of the West have made a great effect on the other civilizations. As a result, the relation between the strength and the civilization of the West and that of others is the most clear feature of the world’s civilization.
With the other civilization getting stronger, the merit of the West civilization is decreasing, and the self-confidence of the non-west about their own culture is increasing.
The most important problem between the civilization of the west and that of others is that the West, especially USA, is trying to prevails the culture of the West. But it’s strange that their power is getting diminish.
The west, which is only one of the civilizations has influenced the others so thoroughly and badly that the western power and culture has most definite feature around the world.
The others used to be more interested in the western culture directly or indirectly, but they feel proud of their own culture.
The west, especially USA, is trying to make the world globalize or Americanize, and most of the civliziation do not want them to do any longer. it is the gap never to be solved.
Among the other civilizations, only the west one have largely and sometimes destructive effects on each of all the civilization. Consequently, the relationship between the power and the culture of the west and those of other civilizations are the most discernible characteristic of the civilized world.
If the relative power of other civilization increases, the attractiveness of the western culture goes down and the pride and confidence of the non-western people go up. Hence, the most crucial problem in the relation between the west and the other civilizations is the gap phenomenon that such a ability of encouraging the generalization of the western-especially the US- culture is on the decrese.
