Section 25 : Myeon - gong(勉强,면강)... Striving and Exerting Effort... Item 30.
Myeon - gong mmeans to make a conscious, diligent effort to strive by oneself.
Striving by oneself means overcoming to find easy ways out (slacking off)
and pushing forward.
One must not leave even the slightest room for hesitation or stalling at crossroads
or stalling at crossroads or corners, only then, in the end,
Will there be true attainment found through those hardsships.
When you strive diligently by yourself,
the foundation of your Sincerity becomes deep and firm.
Eventually, even without consciously trying to exerting it,
Thus, when faced with any situation,
yoy can successfully accomplish the task without even having to stop ponder,
"What should I do?"
[Original Classical Text Translation]
■ 勉强者는 勉自强也니 (면강자는 면자강야니)
One who strives(Myeon - gang) is one who forces oneself to be self-reliant and strong.
■ 自强者는 劇圖進向하야 (자강자는 극도진양하야)
One who strengthens oneself works intensely and plans to forge ahead,
■ 無岐隅趑趄之端緖하고 (무기우자저지단서하고)
leaving no trace or beginning of hesitaion at forks or corners,
■ 畢竟困而得之也라. (필경곤이득지야라)
and ultimately obtains attainment through adversity.
『"Myeon- gang(勉强,면강) means to actively and diligently strive by one′s own volition.
To strive by oneself means to conquer the lazy desire to seek shortcuts,
constantly pushing forward.
One must eliminate even the smallest hint of hesitation or faltering when encountering
crossroads or sharp turns in life.
It is only through this unyielding perseverance that one finally reaps true rewards from
within the hardships.
As you continuously practice this self-directed striving,
the very roots of your Sincerity grow profoundly deep and unshakable.
In time, you reach a state qhere you no longer need to cconsciously force yourself
to try―your natural state becomes identical to the highest state of effort.
Consequently, when confronyted with any matter,
you will masterfully accomplish it without needing to anxiously contemplish
how to manageit."
