Bible Reading - Romans 7:1~8

7:1 Do you not know, brothers--for I am speaking to men who know the law--that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives?

형제들아, 내가 율법을 아는 사람들에게 말하는 것인데, 율법은 사람이 살아 있는 동안에만 그 사람에게 권위를 갖는다는 것을 모르는가?

7:2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, 

예를 들면, 결혼한 여인이 율법으로 남편이 살아있는 한 그에게 묶여져있다.

but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.

그러나 만일 남편이 죽는다면 그녀는 남편의 법에서 풀려난다.

7:3 So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress.

그렇다면 만일 그녀의 남편이 여전히 살아있을 때 다른 남자에게 시집간다면 그녀는 간음한 여자로 불려진다.

But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.

그러나 만일 그녀의 남편이 죽는다면 그녀는 그 법에서 풀려나고 심지어 다른 남자와 결혼할지라도 간음하는 여자가 되지 않는다.

7:4 So, my brothers, 그래서 형제들아, 

you also died to the law through the body of Christ,

너희도 또한 그리스도의 몸을 통해 율법을 향해 죽었다.

that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.

이는 너희가 다른 분, 곧 죽은 자 가운데서 부활하신 분께 속하게 되어 하나님께 열매를 맺게 하려 함이다. 

7:5 For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, 우리가 죄악된 본성에 지배당했을 때에는,

the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.

율법으로 인해 생겨난 죄악된 욕망이 우리 몸 안에서 작용하여 우리는 사망의 열매를 맺었다.

7:6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law

하지만 이제 우리를 얽매었던 것에서 벗어남으로써 우리는 법으로부터 해방되었다.

so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

그래서 우리가 기록되어진 조항의 옛 방식이 아니라 성령의 새로운 방식으로 섬기도록 하기 위함이다.

7:7 What shall we say, then? 그러면 우리가 무엇을 말할 것인가?

Is the law sin?율법이 죄인가?

 Certainly not! 절대적으로 아니다. 

Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. 

참으로 내가 율법을 통하지 않고서는 죄가 무엇인지 알지 못했을 것이다.

For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."

만일 율법이 "탐내지 말라."고 말하지 않았다면 나는 진정으로 탐내는 것이 무엇인지 알지 못했을 것이다. 
7:8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. 그러나 죄는 계명이 준 기회를 포착하여 내 안에 온갖 탐욕스러운 욕망을 불러일으켰다.

For apart from law, sin is dead.율법이 없다면 죄는 죽은 것이다.
