Feedback of 1st Scandi Open HK Champ & seminar
on September 16th - 23th in Helsinki
Here is some feedback of the recent Scandinavian Open Championships and seminars held by Grandmaster Kim
The three disciplines of Haedong Kumdo
During the training seminars held on 16th, 17th and 19th day we came to learn that there are three different schools of swordmanship:
Wesu kum ryu - using a sword with one hand
Ssang Su kum ryu - using a sword with both hands together
Ssang kum ryu - using two swords simultaneously
As we all know, our style of HK belongs to the Ssang kum ryu,
but we also learn to use one sword with both hands and with one hand.
This time we concentrated on practising the Wesu kum ryu, using one sword with one hand.
This kind of practise teaches us the use of our whole body effectively and helps us to understand and learn the Ssang kum ryu also.
It is important to practise the same amount with left hand as with right hand, so that our practise is balanced and more can be learned of the two sword use also.
Championships
The 1st Haedong Kumdo Scandinavian Open Championships were held on September 18th in Helsinki, Töölö Sports Hall.
We were honored by very talented participants from Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Excellent performances of one and two swords kumbups, sparring and cutting were shown, as well as demonstrations by the Swedish and Finnish teams.
The results of the competitions can be viewed here: http://haedong-kumdo.fi/ajankohtaista/championships_results/All competitors were well prepared and showed their best skills of HK, for the enjoyment of fellow HK practitioners and the audience.
Indeed it was obvious that there has been much development of skill among all of the participants and we can expect us all to keep developing our skills even more for the coming Eurpean HK Championships held in Greece next year.
Important thing to note is that we are not competing to be better than our fellow practitioners but to inspire us all to do our very best and thus develop ourselves together.
Hopefully,
all European HK nations will be plentifully present in Greece 2011 to strenghten our brotherly Spirit.
