To fulfill the promise of the Information Age by providing access to technology and the skills to use it.
Mission
We believe new technologies are the essential tools for progress in the 21st century, and that given access to digital information, people will have a more equal opportunity to advance socially, economically and intellectually. The Foundation is committed to the principle of digital inclusion, meaningful participation and information literacy with the mission of providing access to information for everyone, everywhere, anytime.
To ensure successful use of technology, the Foundation collaborates with successful organizations from the smallest community-based organization to the largest national philanthropies. Our grants provide the technology necessary to make this vision a reality for all. It is our goal to fund underserved schools, organizations and individuals committeed to the principle of digital equity.
History
The Beaumont Foundation of America is an extraordinary example of how the civil justice system can make a difference in the lives of all Americans. Established with funds generated by the settlement of a class action lawsuit, the Foundation will use $350 million in unclaimed funds to provide state-of-the-art Toshiba branded technology equipment to all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The hope is that the unique circumstances under which the Foundation was created will serve as a model for similiar settlements and give rise to a new form of philanthropy.
The Foundation was established to assist individuals by investing mainly in charitable organizations and schools. Pilot programs are underway in Chicago, New York, North and South Dakota, New Mexico and Texas. By assigning skilled project managers to each of its grantees and partner organizations, the Foundation can assure that participants can make full use of the technology.
Committed to this issue, we join ongoing efforts of government agencies, schools, nonprofit communities and businesses to offer universal access for all. From remote rural areas to the most densely populated sectors of our inner cities, equipment donated by the Beaumont Foundation of America will be found in schools, community centers, homes and hospitals and will be used by children, their parents, students of all ages and individuals who may otherwise never have access to today’s technology and information.
