레이다와 IR/EO 카메라, 데이터링크도 장착해 해상감시 능력을 강화했네요. 

태국 해군 Do228 항공기 현대화: 세 번째 기체 성공적으로 인도

태국 해군(RTN) Do228 항공기 현대화 사업이 새로운 이정표에 도달했다. General Atomics AeroTec Systems(GA-ATS)는 최근 세 번째로 현대화된 Do228 항공기를 태국 우타파오에서 RTN에 성공적으로 인도했다. 앞서 두 대의 항공기는 2023년에 이미 인도되었다.

향후 임무를 위한 대규모 현대화 프로그램

RTN이 운용 중인 7대의 Do228 항공기 전력은 현재 포괄적인 현대화 프로그램을 통해 업그레이드되고 있다. 이 사업은 미국 국방부 및 인도-태평양 해양안보구상(Indo-Pacific Maritime Security Initiative)의 국방부 지원금 프로그램(DoD Grant Assistance Program)과 협력하여 진행 중이다. 사업의 목표는 임무 검증된 Do228 항공기를 현대 임무 요건에 맞게 적응시키는 것이다.

현대화 과정에서 항공기는 전면적으로 재정비되었고, 집중적인 구조 검사도 이루어졌다. 필수 수리 외에도 주요 구조 부품이 완전히 새것으로 교체되었다. 업그레이드의 핵심은 '신세대(New Generation)' 글래스 콕핏 도입으로, 기존 아날로그 계기를 대체해 조종사에게 첨단 디지털 인터페이스를 제공한다. 해당 시스템은 이미 신뢰성을 입증했으며, 차세대 Do228 NXT 생산형에서도 계속 적용될 예정이다.

2023년 두 대가 인도된 이후, 세 번째 항공기도 최근 대대적인 오버홀을 마치고 RTN에 인도되었다. 이로써 RTN의 Do228 현대화 프로젝트는 계속되고 있으며, 다음 기체 역시 GA-ATS에서 정비 작업에 들어갔다.

해안 감시 임무에 투입되는 Do228의 신형 임무 장비

태국 해군은 Do228 항공기를 수년간 해안 감시 임무에 성공적으로 활용해 왔다. 현대화 프로그램을 통해 이 전력은 최첨단 임무 장비를 새롭게 갖추고 있다. 신규 시스템에는 기체 하부 장착 전방위 레이더, 적외선 기능이 있는 전자광학 카메라, 데이터 링크 시스템, 선박 식별을 위한 자동식별장치(AIS)가 포함된다.

또한, 객실은 인체공학적 임무 관리 콘솔이 새롭게 배치되어 임무 계획, 특수 장비 운용, 데이터 분석·평가를 효율적으로 수행할 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 개선으로 태국 해군의 국경 및 영해 감시 능력이 크게 향상되었다.

더불어, 운용자와 관측자 전용 특수 설계 좌석이 다양한 작전 환경에서 최적의 지원을 제공한다.

Do228의 또 다른 장점은 탁월한 운용 유연성이다. 기내 장비를 신속하게 분리할 수 있어, 항공기를 화물 수송이나 의료 후송 등 다양한 임무로 빠르게 전환할 수 있다.

태국으로의 성공적 인도

지상 테스트와 비행 테스트를 성공적으로 마친 후, 현대화된 항공기는 몇 달 전 태국으로 페리(비행 운송)되어 공식적으로 태국 해군에 인도되었다. 이번 세 번째 인도를 통해 GA-ATS는 Do228 현대화 전문성을 입증했으며, 태국 해군 및 미 국방부와의 성공적 협력을 이어가고 있다.

The modernization of the Royal Thai Navy’s (RTN) Do228 fleet has successfully reached the next milestone: General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) has delivered the third modernized aircraft to the RTN in U-Tapao, Thailand. The first two aircraft were successfully handed over in 2023.

Extensive modernization program for future missions

The RTN fleet of seven Do228 aircraft is currently being upgraded as part of a comprehensive modernization program. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the US Department of Defense and its DoD Grant Assistance Program of the Indo-Pacific Maritime Security Initiative. The aim is to adapt the mission-proven Do228 to the requirements of modern missions.

During the modernization, the aircraft was completely refurbished and underwent an intensive structural inspection. In addition to necessary repairs, central structural elements were also completely renewed. A key aspect of the upgrade is the “New Generation” glass cockpit, which replaces the previous analog instruments and offers pilots a state-of-the-art digital user interface. It has been a system that has proven its reliability and will be continued in the Do228 NXT production.

After the first two aircraft were handed over in 2023, the third aircraft had now also successfully undergone the extensive overhaul and had been handed over to the RTN a few months ago. This continues the modernization project of RTN’s Do228 fleet, and the next aircraft is already at GA-ATS for maintenance work.

Do228 with new mission equipment in operation for coastal protection

The Royal Thai Navy has been successfully using the Do228 for coastal surveillance missions for many years. As part of the modernization program, the fleet is being equipped with state-of-the-art mission equipment. The new systems and technology include an all-round radar installed under the fuselage, an electro-optical camera with infrared function, a data link system and an automatic identification system for ship identification.

The cabin had also been redesigned and equipped with an ergonomic mission management console that enables efficient planning of missions, operation of special equipment and analysis and eval‎uation of data. These improvements significantly increase the Royal Thai Navy’s effectiveness in securing borders and monitoring its territorial waters.

In addition, specially designed seats for operators and observers provide optimal support in various operational scenarios.

Another advantage of the Do228 is its exceptional flexibility. The cabin interior can be quickly removed, allowing the aircraft to be easily converted for alternative tasks such as cargo transportation or medical evacuation missions.

Successful delivery to Thailand

After successful ground tests and extensive flight tests, the modernized aircraft was ferried to Thailand a few months ago and ceremoniously handed over to the RTN. With this third delivery, GA-ATS underlines its expertise in the modernization of the Do228 and continues its successful cooperation with the Royal Thai Navy and the US Department of Defense.
