Column - Pentecost occurred after the crucifixion.
“But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto uttermost part of the earth. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are after far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.’” (Acts 1:8; 2:38-39)
1. Those who proclaim to walk with Jesus claim to receive the Holy Spirit.
No matter how hard they try, they will never be able to surpass the level of contemplative prayer.
This is because they lack the knowledge of the truth that come to God.
Truth is the Holy Spirit.
And Christ is the truth.
Therefore, even those in groups who boast of being born again ultimately retreat into the shadow of the sign.
The sign is sought by the flesh, Jewish faith under the law.
The cross of Christ is the gateway that crucifies us from the world and makes us new creations resurrected in Christ.
The walk with Jesus can only go as far as the cross.
That's it.
After that, we encounter Christ in the Holy Spirit of truth, who has taken over the mission.
2. Jesus, born in Nazareth, ministered in Galilee and then went up to Jerusalem, where he was tortured by the chief priests and elders, crucified and died.
Jesus's life ends there.
The raised Jesus Christ is not Jesus of Nazareth, but Christ Jesus, acknowledged as the Son of God.
The gospel of Jesus as Lord and Christ spread from Jerusalem to Rome.
This is the Book of Acts.
The gospel of Christ became global through the Apostle Paul's Epistle to the Romans.
Jesus is the descendant of David, but Christ is the Son of God.
Therefore, when Jesus came, he called himself the Son of Man.
However, after he was raised, he received the glory he had before the creation of the world (John 17:5).
3. Jesus came as the Son of Man, bore the cross, and became the ransom for all (Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:45). With his blood, he redeemed us from the sin of Adam.
After he was raised, he revealed himself to his disciples for 40 days in a completely different form.
Until the Spirit of truth came, he was a mystery to his disciples.
The two disciples on the road to Emmaus accompanied him, but they did not recognize him until they ate bread.
But who would show their determination to walk with Jesus? That would be just a matter of words. It's a good word.
And yet, they say they even partake of the bread, becoming one body and one spirit with Christ, as a memorial. This is absurd.
Without repenting and baptizing, which involve bearing the cross together and following his death and being raised, we can never leave the place of sin and enter the place of righteousness and life in Christ.
4. Jesus, who came from Galilee to Jerusalem, was crucified there, rose again, appeared in his resurrected body for 40 days, and then ascended to heaven.
He sat down on the throne of glory from which he had departed for a little while (Matthew 22:44).
The risen Lord forbids even his beloved Mary to approach him because he is different.
This means the same yet different.
The Holy Spirit is the same yet different Comforter.
Jesus' companionship ends at Jerusalem, at the cross.
However, none of us saw Jesus there.
If we want to accompany Jesus, he remains in Galilee or Jerusalem.
5. Pentecost is not a denominational name, but the fiftieth day after the Lord suffered and died in Jerusalem.
The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost.
The Holy Spirit came on Pentecost, after Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and the Feast of Firstfruits.
To participate in Pentecost, one must believe that Jesus is Lord and Christ, depart from place of sin and repent and be baptized into following in Christ which is without sin (Acts 2:38).
The same applies to the disciples who followed Jesus to the cross.
They scattered from Jerusalem and went to Galilee, then returned to Jerusalem and received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.
Knowing that Jesus is the Savior and Christ, they always see the Lord sitting on the throne in the Holy Spirit, just like David (Acts 2:25).
6. Only when the Holy Spirit dwells within us can the Holy Spirit and I, as witnesses of the two-part chorus, have the power to confess (homologeo) that Jesus is the Christ.
The manifestation of the Holy Spirit, overshadowing us, is a sign that the Holy Spirit has come, as prophesied by Joel.
It means to see and confirm.
However, the Spirit of truth dwelling within us hears with the ears of our minds and sees with the eyes of our minds.
By the fullness of the Holy Spirit's indwelling work, the gospel has spread from Jerusalem to Rome, and from Rome to the ends of the earth.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth who is present with truth among us now, and the Spirit of Life who gives life.
Through this Holy Spirit, we believe in Christ Jesus as our Savior, receive eternal life, and become children and heirs of God the Father.
