“A Guy Is a Guy”는 1719년 영국 구전가요“I Went to the Alehouse (A Knave Is a Knave)”，
“나는 맥주집에 갔다 (불량배는 불량배이다)”에서 유래 되었다。

제2차 세계대전 때 군인들에 의해 저속한 노래로 불려진 것을 
Oscar Brand가 건전한 가사로 개사(改写)하여 
1952년2월7일 Columbia Records에서 발매한 
Doris Day의 노래로 가장 널리 알려 졌다. 
또한 1951년 Ella Fitzgerald，오스트레일리아 가수 June Miller，
1952년 5월 Les Welch와 그의 오케스트라의 음반이 있으나 
Doris Day의 버전이 Australian Charts #1에 기록되어 있다。

The song originated in a British song，“I Went to the Alehouse (A Knave Is a Knave)”，dating from 1719。
During World War Ⅱ，soldiers sang a bawdy song based on“A Knave Is a Knave”，entitled“A Gob Is a Slob”。
Oscar Brand cleaned up the lyrics，and wrote this song based on it。
