11:1 I ask then: Did God reject his people?

그러면 내가 묻는다. 하나님께서 그의 백성들을 버리(거절하)셨는가?

By no means! 절대로 아니다. 

I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.

나 자신이 이스라엘 사람이요, 아브라함의 후손이며 베냐민 지파 출신이다. 

11:2 God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew.

하나님께서 그가 미리 아셨던 그의 백성들을 거절하지(버리지) 않으셨다.

Don't you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah--

너희는 성경 구절에서 엘리야에 대해 뭐라고 말하는지 모르느냐?

how he appealed to God against Israel: 그가 이스라엘을 대항하여 하나님께 어떻게 호소하는지

11:3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; 

주님, 그들이 당신의 선지자들을 죽였고 당신의 제단들을 헐어 버렸습니다. 

I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me"?

나는 오직 홀로 남았습니다. 그리고 그들이 나를 죽이려고 시도하고 있습니다. 

11:4 And what was God's answer to him? 그리고 그에게 하나님께서 하신 응답이 무엇인가?

"I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal."

나는 바알에게 무릎을 꿇지 않았던 칠천명을 나 자신을 위해 남겨 두었다.

11:5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.

그래서 현재에도 은혜로 선택을 받은 남은 자가 있다.

11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; 

그리고 만일 은혜로라면 그것은 더 이상 행위에 의한 것이 아니다. 

if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

만일 그것이(행위로라면) 은혜는 더 이상 은혜가 아니다.

11:7 What then? 그러면 무엇인가?

What Israel sought so earnestly it did not obtain, but the elect did.

이스라엘이 열정적으로 그렇게 찾았던 것은 얻지 못했으나 택함 받은 자들이 얻었다.

 The others were hardened, 그 남은 자들은 굳어졌다.

11:8 as it is written:기록되어진 것처럼 

 "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes 하나님은 그들에게 혼미한 영과 눈을 주셨다.

so that they could not see 그들이 볼 수 없게 하려고

and ears so that they could not hear, to this very day."

이날까지 그들이 들을 수 없게 하려고 귀를 

11:9 And David says:그리고 다윗이 말한다.

 "May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution(보복) for them.

그들의 식탁이 그들에게 올무와 덫이 되고, 걸림돌과 응징이 되기를.

11:10 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever."

그들의 눈이 어두워져 볼 수 없게 되고, 그들의 등은 영원히 굽게 되기를.

11:11 Again I ask: 다시 내가 묻는다.

Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? 그들은 회복 불가능할 정도로 넘어졌는가?

Not at all! 전혀 아니다.

Rather, because of their transgression, 오히려 그들의 범죄 때문에 

salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.

구원이 이스라엘이 시기나게 하려고 이방인들에게 갔다.

11:12 But if their transgression means riches for the world,

그러나 만일 그들의 범죄가 세상을 위한 부요함을 의미한다면

and their loss means riches for the Gentiles,

그리고 그들의 손실이 이방인들을 위한 부요함을 의미한다면 

how much greater riches will their fullness bring!

그들의 충만함은 얼마나 더 큰 부요함을 가져다줄 것인가!
