로이터 통신은 “영국의 4인조 남성그룹 웨스트라이프(Westlife)가 미국 출신의 
배우겸 가수 베드 미들러의 히트곡 ‘The Rose’를 리메이크 한 노래로 UK 싱글차트 
1위에 올랐다.”고 밝혔다. 웨스트 라이프가 UK싱글차트 정상에 오른 것은 
이번이 14번째라고 한다. 


단일 가수가 UK차트에서 14번 정상에 오른 것은 역대 3위에 해당된다. 
UK 싱글차트 정상에 가장 많이 올랐던 가수는 비틀즈이며 2위는 엘비스 프레슬리다. 
‘더 로즈’는 베드 미들러가 지난 80년에 발표했던 노래로 배드 미들러는 이 곡으로 
빌보드 싱글차트 3위까지 올랐다.
 

웨스트 라이프는 테이크 댓, 보이존의 뒤를 잇는 영국의 대표적 보이밴드로 
지난 99년 데뷔해 올해로 9년째 활동중이다. 데뷔 초에는 5인조로 활동했으나 
2004년 브라이언 맥파튼의 탈퇴로 현재는 4인조로 음악 활동을 하고 있다. 
지금까지 10여장의 앨범을 통해 전세계에 3500만장의 판매를 기록중이다.
