전치사 뒤에 있는 '~ing'는 모두 동명사입니다. 

     1. on ~ing : ~ing 할 때
                        ~ing 하자마자

    2. in ~ing : ~ing 할 때, 

                   하는데 (있어서)

    3. by ~ing : ~ing 함으로써

 

1. on ~ing

1) ~ 하자마자 ( as soon as S + V )

On arriving home, he took a shower directly.
집에 도착하자마자 그는 즉시 샤워를 했다.

On getting off the bus, he came across his former lover.
버스에서 내리자마자 그는 그의 이전 애인을 만났다. 

On his beginning to speak, she cut in on the conversation.
그가 말을 시작하자마자 그녀가 대화에 끼어들었다.

2) ~ 할 때 ( when S + V로 바꾸어 해석하실 수 있습니다)

On breaking up with Jane, Will tried to put her out of his mind.
제인과 헤어졌을 때 윌은 그녀를 잊으려고 노력했다.

On discovering Sarah had a rival, she was utterly unhappy.
사라는 경쟁자가 있다는 것을 알았을 때 매우 불행했다.

2. in ~ing

1) ~ 할 때 ( when S + V )

Be careful in crossing the road.
길을 건널 때 조심해라.

In playing soccer, I am so happy.
축구할 때 나는 너무 기쁘다.

In exercising that discretion they must consider each request seriously.
그 결정권을 행사할 때 그들은 각각의 요구사항을 진지하게 고려해야 한다.

2) ~하는데 (있어서)

There are lots of problems in managing that organization.
그 조직을 관리하는데 (있어서) 많은 문제점들이 있다.

I am not an expert in changing diapers.
나는 기저귀를 갈아끼는데 숙련되어 있지 않다.

3. by ~ing  : ~ 함으로써

He always surprises us by doing unexpected behaviors.
그는 항상 예기치 않은 행동을 함으로써 우리를 놀래킨다. 

She slimmed down by doing yoga.
그녀는 요가를 함으로써 날씬해 졌다.

Sam earns a living by doing short-timer duties.
쌤은 임시직을 함으로써 생계를 꾸린다.
