Got Gam is Scarier than a Tiger
곶감이 호랑이보다 무섭다.

One night, long ago, a tiger came down to a village.
오래전 어느날 밤, 호랑이 한마리가 마을로 내려왔습니다.
He was hungry and looking for something to eat.
그는 배가고파서 먹을 것을 찾고 있었습니다.
He quietly walked around the village.
그는 조용히 마을 주변을 돌아다녔습니다.
Then he heard a baby crying.
그때 그는 아기가 우는 소리를 들었습니다.
"Hush. .. Stop crying. There is a tiger outside," the mother said to her baby.
"쉿.. 울지 마라. 밖에 호랑이가 있다." 엄마가 아기에게 말했습니다.
The tiger was very surprised to hear that.
호랑이는 그 말을 듣고 매우 놀랐습니다.
"What! How does she know that I am here?"
"뭐! 그녀가 내가 여기있는걸 어떻게 알았지?"
The mother was trying to calm the baby, but the baby cried more.
엄마는 아기를 그치게 하려고 노력하고 있었지만, 아기는 더 울었습니다.
She was getting very tired.
그녀는 점점 피곤해지기 시작했습니다.
"If you don't stop crying, I'll throw you to the tiger," said the mother.
"만일 네가 울기를 멈추지 않으면, 호랑이한테 던져버릴거야," 엄마가 말했습니다.
"Wow, I'm going to eat now," thought the tiger.
"와우, 난 이제 먹을 수 있겠구나," 호랑이가 생각했습니다.
He moved closer to the house.
그는 집 가까이로 다가갔습니다.
He sat down in front of the door, and opened his mouth.
그는 문 앞에 앉아서 입을 벌렸습니다.
He waited and waited, but nothing happened.
그는 기다리고 기다렸지만, 아무일도 일어나지 않았습니다.
The baby kept on crying.
아기는 계속 울었습니다.
"Look! Here comes the Got Gam," said the mother.
"봐라! 여기 곶감이 있다." 엄마가 말했습니다.
At once, the baby stopped crying.
즉시, 아기는 울음을 그쳤습니다.
"What! The baby was not afraid of me. But it stopped crying for Got Gam. Who is this Got Gam? He must be very scary."
"뭐야! 아기가 나를 무서워하지 않는다. 그러나 곶감때문에 울음을 멈췄다. 이 곶감이 누구지? 그는 분명 매우 무서울거야."
Suddenly, the tiger became scared.
갑자기 호랑이는 무서워졌습니다.
So he walked off toward the barn.
그래서 그는 헛간으로 갔다.
At the same time, there was a thief hiding in the barn.
동시에, 도둑이 헛간에 숨어있었다.
The thief had come to steal a cow.
그 도둑은 소를 훔치러 왔다.
In the darkness the thief saw something moving.
어둠속에서 도둑은 무언가가 움직이는 것을 보았다.
"Hmm, here comes a cow," thought the thief.
"흠, 소가 오는군," 도둑이 생각했다.
Quickly, he jumped on its back.
재빨리, 그는 그것의 등위에 뛰어올랐다.
It was dark in the barn.
헛간안은 어두웠다.
The thief thought the tiger was a cow.
도둑은 호랑이가 소라고 생각했다.
"Ouch! This must be the Got Gam," thought the tiger.
"이런! 이건 분명히 곶감일거야," 호랑이가 생각했다.
He became scared and started to run.
그는 무서워서 달리기 시작했다.
The thief grabbed the tiger's neck tightly trying not to fall.
도둑은 떨어지지 않으려고 호랑이의 목을 단단히 붙잡았다.
"This Got Gam is very powerful," thought the tiger.
이 곶감은 매우 힘이 세다." 호랑이가 생각했다.
"I'm running as fast as I can, and he is still on my back."
"난 최대한 빨리 달리고있고, 그는 여전히 내 등에 있다."
Now the tiger was getting more scared.
이제 호랑이는 더 무서워지기 시작했다.
He started to run even faster.
그는 훨씬 빨리 달리기 시작했다.
But the faster he ran the tighter the thief held on.
그러나 그가 더 빨리 달릴수록 도둑은 더 단단히 붙잡았다.
At last dawn came and it started to get light.
마침내 새벽이 왔고, 점점 밝아지기 시작했다.
The thief realized what had happened.
도둑은 무슨 일이 일어나는지 깨달았다.
He was not on the back of a cow, but a tiger.
그는 소등에 탔던것이 아니라, 호랑이 등에 탔던 것이다.
"Oh my goodness, I stole a tiger. I am going to die. What am I going to do?"
"오 이런, 난 호랑이를 훔쳤어, 난 이제 죽게될거야. 난 뭘 해야하지?"
The thief wanted to jump off, but the tiger was running too fast.
도둑은 뛰어내리고 싶었지만, 호랑이가 너무 빨리 달리고 있었다.
Ahead he saw a low tree branch.
그는 앞쪽에 낮은 나무가지가 있는 것을 보았다.
When the tiger passed below it, the thief quickly grabbed the branch.
호랑이가 그 아래를 지날때, 도둑은 재빨리 가지를 잡았다.
"Oh good! The Got Gam fell off," thought the tiger.
"오 좋아! 곶감이 떨어졌다." 호랑이가 생각했다.
He then ran away as fast as he could into the forest.
그리고 나서 그는 그가 할수있는 한 빨리 숲속으로 도망쳤다.
"Phew! The tiger almost had me for lunch!"
"휴! 호랑이가 나를 점심으로 먹을 뻔 했네!"
The thief wiped the sweat off his forehead.
도둑은 이마의 땀을 닦았다.
After that the tiger never came back to the village.
그 이후로 호랑이는 마을에 두번다시 나타나지 않았다.
He was too scared of the Got Gam.
그는 곶감이 너무 무서웠다.
The thief decided never to steal again.
도둑은 두번다시 훔치지 않겠다고 결심했다.
He was too afraid of the tiger.
그는 호랑이가 너무 무서웠다.

개미와 비둘기

An ant, walking by the river one day, said to himself,
"How nice and cool this water looks! I must drink some of it."
어느날 개미 한마리가 강가를 걸으면서 혼잣말을 했다.
"이 강이 얼마나 멋지고 시원해보이는가! 난 이걸 조금 마셔야겠다."
But as he began to drink, his foot slipped, and he fell in.
그러나 그가 마시려고 할때, 그의 말이 미끄러졌고, 그는 물에 빠졌다.
:Oh, somebody please help me, or I shall be drowned!" cried he.
"오, 누가 날좀 도와줘요, 안그러면 나는 빠져죽을거에요!" 그가 소리쳤다.
A dove sitting in a tree that overhung the river heard him, and threw him a leaf.
강 위에 드리운 나무에 앉아있던 비둘기 한마리가 그소릴 들었고, 나뭇잎 한장을 던져주었다.
"climb upon the leaf." said she, "and you will float ashore."
"나뭇잎 위로 올라오세요. 그러면 당신은 물가로 밀려올거에요."
The ant climbed upon the leaf, and the wind blew it to the shore,
and he steeped upon dry land again.
개미가 나뭇잎 위로 올라왔고, 바람이 그것을 물가로 보냈다. 그리고 개미는 다시 마른 땅으로 올라왔다.
"Good bye, kind Dove." said he, as he ran home.
"안녕, 친절한 비둘기씨." 집으로 달려가면서 개미가 말했다.
"you have saved my life, and I wish I could do something for you."
"당신은 내 목숨을 살려줬어요. 그리고 나는 당신을 위해 뭔가를 해주길 바래요."
"Good bye" said the Dove, "be careful not to fall in again."
"잘가요, 다시 빠지지 않게 조심하세요." 비둘기가 말했다.

A few days after this, when the Dove was busy building her nest,
the Ant saw a man just raising his gun to shoot her.
이 일이 있고 며칠 뒤, 비둘기가 둥지를 짓느라 바쁠때, 개미는 비둘기를 쏘려고 총을 겨운 남자를 보았다.
He ran quickly, and bit the man's the foot so hard, that he cried,
"Oh! oh!" and droped his gun.
개미는 빨리 달려가서 그 남자의 발을 세게 물었다. 남자는 소리쳤다.
"오! 오!" 그리고 총을 떨어뜨렸다.
This startled the Dove, and she flew away.
이것이 비둘기를 깜짝 놀라게 했고 그녀는 날아가버렸다.
The man picked up his gun, the Dove came back to her nest.
남자는 총을 들었고, 비둘기가 둥지로 돌아왔다.
"Thank you, my little friend." she said, "You have saved my life."
"고마워요, 내 작은 친구여. 당신은 내 목숨을 구해줬어요." 비둘기가 말했다.

and the little Ant jumped for joy, to think he had been able to help the kind Dove.
그리고 작은 개미는 친절한 비둘기를 도울 수 있었다는 생각이 기뻐서 뛰었다.
