Got Gam is Scarier than a Tiger
호랑이보다 더 무서운 곶감.

One night, long ago, a tiger came down to a village. He was hungry and looking for something to eat.
옛날 옛날 한옛날에 어느날 밤에 배고픈 호랑이가 먹을 것을 찾아 마을로 내려왔어여.
He quietly walked around the village.
마을 어귀를 이리저리 어슬렁거렸어요.
Then
he heard a baby crying.
그러다가 한 아이의 울음소리를 듣게되었어요.
"Hush. .. Stop crying.
"쉬~~~ 아가야 울지마라 밖에 호랑이 잇다"
There is a tiger
outside," the mother said to her baby. The tiger was very surprised 아이 엄마는 아이에게 말햇어요.

"아니, 내가 여기 있는걸 어떻게 알았지"밖에 있던 호랑이는 깜짝 놀랐어요.
The mother was trying to calm the baby, but the baby cried more. She 아이엄마는 아이으 ㅣ울음을 그치려고 노력햇지만 아이는 더욱더 크게 울기만 했어요.

tiger," said the mother.
아이 엄마는 그만 지쳐서 "너 울음으 그치지 않으면 엄마가 호랑이 한테 던져벌릴꺼야."라고 말했어요.
"Wow, I'm going to eat now," thought
the tiger."우와.드디어 배를 채울수 있겠군"라고 호랑이는 생각했어요.

He moved closer to the house.
그 집으로 더 가까이 다가갓어요.
He sat down in front of the door, and opened his
mouth.그리고는 문앞에 앉아 입을 벌리고 있었어요.
He waited and waited, but nothing happened. The baby kept on crying. 호랑이는 기다리고 기라렸지만 아무일 도 일어나지 않았어요
아이는 계속해서 울기만 햇어요.
"Look! Here comes the Got Gam," said the mother.
"자 ,아가야 여기 곶감있다"
At once,
the baby stopped crying.
그러자 아이는 당장 뚝 하고 울음을 그쳤어요.
"What! The baby was not afraid of me. But it stopped
crying for Got Gam. Who is this Got Gam? He must be very scary."
"아니 나도 무서워하지 않던 아이가 곶감을 들으니까 당장울음을 그치다니 도대체 곶감이 누구지? 틀림없이 아주아주 무서운 놈인가보다."
Suddenly, the tiger became scared. So he walked off toward the barn.
갑자기 호랑이는 무서워지기 시작했어요.그래서 헛간으로 도망쳤어요.
At the same time, there was a thief hiding in the barn. The thief had come
to steal a cow.마침 그때에 도둑이 소를 훔치기 위해서 헛간에 숨어있었어.
In the darkness the thief saw something moving.
어둠속에서 도둑은 무엇인가가 움직이는걸 보았어요.
"Hmm,
here comes a cow," thought the thief. Quickly, he jumped on its back."음~~~~~소가 이리로 오는군"이렇게 생각한 도둑은 재빨리 등에 올라탔어요.
It
was dark in the barn. The thief thought the tiger was a cow.
헛간이 너무 어두어서 호랑이를 소라고 생각한거였어요.
"Ouch!
This must be the Got Gam," thought the tiger. He became scared and
started to run.
"어! 바로 그 무서운 곶감인가?" 도둑을 곶감이라고 생각한 호랑이는 무서워서 밖으로 달려나갔어요.
The thief grabbed the tiger's neck tightly trying not
to fall.도둑이 떨어지지 않으려고 호랑이의 목에 더욱더 세게 매달리자
"This Got Gam is very powerful," thought the tiger.
"이 곶감은 매우 힘이 세구나"라고 호랑이는 생각했어요.
"I'm running as fast as I can, and he is still on my back."
Now the tiger was getting more scared. He started to run even faster. "그렇다면 내가 아무리 빨리 달려도 내 등에서 떨어지지않는다는 말인가?"더욱더 무서워진 호랑이는 더 빨리 달리기 시작했고 도둑도 더 꼬옥 매달렸어요.
But the faster he ran the tighter the thief held on.

At last dawn came and it started to get light. The thief realized what had
happened.점차 새벽이오고 날이 밝아오자 도둑은 자신이 잡고 있는게 소가 아니라 호랑이라는 걸 깨달았어요.
He was not on the back of a cow, but a tiger. "Oh
my goodness, I stole a tiger. I am going to die. What am I going to do?" "오!세상에 내가 호랑이를 훔치다니 난 이제 죽었구나 이를 어쩌나?"
The thief wanted to jump off, but the tiger was running too fast.
도둑은 뛰어내리고 싶었지만 호랑이가 너무 빨리 달려서 그럴수 가 없었어요.
Ahead
he saw a low tree branch. When the tiger passed below it, the thief quickly
grabbed the branch. "Oh good! The Got Gam fell off," thought the tiger. 저 앞에 얕은 나무가지가 보이자 그 앞에 다달았을때 도둑은 재빨리 그 나뭇가지에 매달렸어요.
He then ran away as fast as he could into the forest.
그리고는 숲속으로 걸음아 날 살려라 달아났어요.
"Phew!
The tiger almost had me for lunch!" The thief wiped the sweat off
his forehead.
"휴~ 하마터면 호랑이 밥이 될뻔했네"도둑은 이마의 땀을 닦으며 애기했어요.
After that the tiger never came back to the village. He was too
scared of the Got Gam. The thief decided never to steal again. He was too afraid
of the tiger.
그 이후로 호랑이는 곶감이 무서워서 다시는 마을에 내려오지 않았고, 도둑은 호랑이가 무서워서 다시는 도둑질을 하지 않았답니다.

the ant and dove
개미와 비둘기
An ant, walking by the river one day, said to himself,
"How nice and cool this water looks! I must drink some of it."
어느날 강가를 걷고 있던 개미는 "야~강물이 참 시원하겠다. 물좀
마셔야지"라고 말했어요.
But as he began to drink, his foot slipped, and he fell in.
그러나 개미가 물을 마시려다가 발이 미끄러져서 강물에 빠지고 말았어요.
:Oh, somebody please help me, or I shall be drowned!" cried he.
"어푸 어푸 도와주세요 물에 빠졌어요, 개미 살려"하고 소리쳤어요.
A dove sitting in a tree that overhung the river heard him, and threw him a leaf. 그때 강가 나무가지에 앉아있던 비둘기가 그 소리를 듣곤 나뭇잎을 떨어트려 주었어요.
"climb upon the leaf." said she,
"and you will float ashore."
"그 나뭇잎에 올라타,그러면 강둑에 닿을수 있어"
T he ant climbed upon the leaf, and the wind blew it to the shore,
and he steeped upon dry land again.
개미는 나뭇잎에 올라탔어요,그러자 바람이 불어 개미를 강둑까지보내주어 마침내 마른땅을 밟게 되었어요.
"Good bye, kind Dove."
said he, as he ran home. "고맙다 친절한 비둘기야"
개미는 인사를 하고 집으로 돌아갔어요.
"you have saved my life, and I wish I could do something for you."
"내 목숨을 살려주었으니 이 은헤를 잊지 않을께"
"Good bye" said the Dove,
"그래, 잘가 다시 강물에 빠지지 않도록 조심하구"

"be careful not to fall in again."

A few days after this, when the Dove was busy buildingher nest,
the Ant saw a man just raising his gun to shoot her.
며칠후 비둘기가 둥지를 짓느라 바쁠때 사냥꾼이 비둘기를 향해 총을 쏘려하는 것을 개미가 보았어요.

He ran quickly, and bit the man's the foot so hard, that he crid,
"Oh! oh!" and droped his gun.
그러자 개미는 재빨리 사냥꾼의 발가락을 힘차게 깨물었고사냥꾼은 놀라 소리치며총을 떨어뜨렸어요"아야,아야"
This startled the Dove, and she flew away.
그 소리에 비둘기는 날아가 버렸어요.
The man picked up his gun, the Dove came back to her nest.
사냥꾼은 총을 가지고 돌아갔고 다시 둥지로 돌아온 비둘기는 개미에게

"고맙다 개미친구야 니가 내 생명을 구해주었구나"라고 얘기 했어요.
"Thank you, my little friend." she said,
"You have saved my life."

and the little Ant jumped for joy, to think he had been able to help the kind Dove.
그러자 개미는 마침내 비둘기에게 은혜를 갚게 되어서 기뻣답니다.
