Bible Reading - Romans 13:1~7

13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities,

모든 사람들은 다스리는 권세들에게 자신을 복종해야만 한다.

for there is no authority except that which God has established.

하나님께서 세우신 것 외에 권세가 없다.

The authorities that exist have been established by God.

존재하는 권세는 하나님에 의해 세워졌다.

13:2 Consequently(따라서), he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, 권세에 반역하는 자는 하나님께서 제정하신 것에 대항하여 반역을 하는 것이다. 

and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

그리고 그렇게 하는 자들은 그들 자신에게 심판을 가져올 것이다.

13:3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong.

통치자들은 옳은 일을 하는 사람들에게는 두려움을 주지 않지만, 악한 일을 하는 사람들에게는 두려움을 준다.

Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? 

권력자에 대한 두려움에서 벗어나고 싶은가?

Then do what is right and he will commend you.

그러면 옳은 것을 행하라. 그러면 그가 너를 칭찬할 것이다. 

13:4 For he is God's servant to do you good. 그는 너에게 선을 행하는 하나님의 종이다.

But if you do wrong, be afraid, 만일 네가 잘못한다면 두려워하라.

for he does not bear the sword for nothing.

그는  헛된 것에 대해 그의 칼을 휘두르지 않는다.

He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

그는 하나님의 종이며, 악을 행하는 자에게 벌을 내리는 진노의 도구이다.

13:5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.

그러므로 처벌받을 가능성 때문만이 아니라 양심을 위해서도 권세들에게 복종해야 한다.

13:6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing.

이것이 바로 여러분이 세금을 내는 이유이며, 공무원들은 하나님의 종으로서 통치에 전념하기 때문이다.

13:7 Give everyone what you owe him: 그에게 빚진 것을 모두에게 줘라:

If you owe taxes, pay taxes; 세금을 내야 한다면, 세금을 납부하라.

if revenue, then revenue; 수익이 발생하면 국세를 내어라.

if respect, then respect; 만일 존경해야 한다면 존경하라.

if honor, then honor. 만일 높여주어야 한다면 높여주어라.
