Payments |
We need a $10,000 down payment to add your name to the bottom of our kit board. Down payment can be a personal check, money order, cashiers check or wire transfer. We do not take credit cards for bike payments. For unassembled kits we will call you around 2-3 weeks before your kit will be ready to ship out and ask to settle the full balance. Once we receive your balance due, and when your kit becomes ready to ship, we will call you with a tracking number. We will not ship out a kit without full payment. Please send either a cashiers check, money order or wire transfer. Do not send a personal check as we have to wait till it clears to release your kit. For BBC builds we ask for the balance when you pick up the bike or before we ship it out. For BBC builds totaling more than $35,000, we ask for an additional $10,000 when we start your build and the balance upon completion. Manufacturer's Title |
Big Bear Choppers is a Licensed Motorcycle Manufacturer and Dealer of BBC motorcycles. When you purchase a BBC motorcycle, either turn-key or unassembled, you are purchasing a ‘Manufactured Motorcycle,’ not a ‘Special Construction’ like most choppers. We give you a ‘Manufacturer’s Title’ with your bike. That ‘Manufacturer’s Title’ will save you a bunch of hassle and money.

DMV & Tax |
California residents will pay a 7.75% sales tax upon purchase. If you live outside of California, you will pay the sales tax in your state when registering your motorcycle. Most states require a VIN Verification by your local Highway Patrol prior to registering your motorcycle. Once your VIN Verification is complete, your motorcycle is ready to register with DMV. We have completed all required emissions testing and EPA certification for the State of California. If you live in California, we handle all the DMV work for you.

Insurance |
Since our motorcycles have a ‘Manufacturer’s Title,’ insurance agencies usually will be able to provide you with a more affordable policy than what they can with a ‘Special Construction’ motorcycle. The value of the motorcycle is registered in Kelly Blue Book.

Financing |
We do not have in-house financing. The only institution we would refer you to is People's First Financing. You can find their website from our Links page. They have financed 100s of Big Bear Choppers and don't care if you are purchasing either an unassembled kit or complete turn-key. Some financial institutions feel insecure about the 'unassembled kit bike' thing. However, you will find that most Credit Unions and Banks will finance your Big Bear Chopper with ease because they will see that your motorcycle is a ‘Manufactured Vehicle’ registered in the Kelly Blue Book. Once your insurance rep sees the Title, they usually will finance the motorcycle at a lower rate compared to a ‘Special Construction’ motorcycle. To make them happy, we can supply your finance institution with a Purchase Order and your frame MSO which will have your VIN number.

Lead Times |
The kit board is a list of unassembled kit customers that have given their deposits and waiting in line. You will be added to the bottom of the list no matter what model you order. Paying in full does not make you a priority. If you're a rock star, movie star or billionaire, you will wait the same as everyone else. The BBC builds have a different board of names and is treated like the kit board. Your lead time starts the day we receive your down payment. Lead times are as follows (updated 11/4): The Sled model does not apply to the above lead times. Dealers |
Big Bear Choppers has no official "dealers" or "distributors." No company, with the exception of Custom Chrome, has the title of an "Authorized Big Bear Choppers' Distributor or Dealer." We have no affiliation with companies that sell our product and is not responsible for actions and claims companies make. Being an “authorized” dealer or distributor results from a contractual relationship between the dealer and the manufacturer (BBC) whereby certain conduct of the dealer or distributor is controlled by the manufacturer. For example, typical provisions of a dealership or distributorship agreement addresses issues such as pricing structure, advertising, financing, warranties, authenticity, retail facility requirements and the right to use the intellectual property of the manufacture. If you are considering to purchase either a BBC unassembled kit or a completed turn-key BBC motorcycle, you can contact an authorized Custom Chrome dealer near you and work through them. We offer a small discount to Custom Chrome dealers, so they are able to provide you with a kit for the MSRP and cover a little of their time/costs. Custom Chrome dealers can either buy the stock version of our Venom ProStreet kit from Custom Chrome or from us. If you desire upgrades in your kit and/or purchase other BBC models, you or the shop will need to order the kit from us. Most people purchase the kit from the source (Big Bear Choppers) as opposed from a Custom Chrome dealer.

Bike's Handling |
Our motorcycles are the latest in the design of today’s demand and beyond. You’ll notice a comfortable ride while experiencing the outlaw attitude The powerful power plant will leave your stomach a hundred yards back and your destination a thousand miles on the horizon. Big Bear Choppers C.A.D. (Computer Aided Design) system, combined with extensive road testing, have figured out the perfect frame geometry; downtube length, backbone length, neck and triple tree rake which make up the measurement of the bike’s trail. The bike’s trail will generally determine how the bike will handle. We have landed the front wheel in the sweet spot of the final trail measurement, which eliminates front-end ‘flop’ and high-speed wobble. We have designed and engineered our bikes to point perfectly straight with hardly any rider effort. With the exception of the Devil’s Advocate, we off-set the motor to the right to balance the primary drive that is pushed to the left to clear the final belt for the wide tire. The Devil’s Advocate models come with a RSD, so the motor and primary drive does not have to be off-set. Our motorcycle’s combination of a low seat height and a low center of gravity makes for a bike that demands little strength and effort maneuvering at low speeds and at the stoplights. You’ll see what we’re talking about when you carve snaky roads, maneuver through the parking lots and point your Big Bear Chopper straight for miles.

Paint |
For Unassembled Kits: For BBC Builds: Our price includes a one color powdercoat on frame, tanks and fenders for BBC builds. Powdercoating is a process where the paint is electronically charged and baked at 375° onto the metal. The results make for a paint job that can withstand most chipping and tons of abuse. We use Concept Powdercoat in Rancho Cucamonga for this. Powdercoat colors are abundant and metallic flake can be added. If you wish to have a custom paint job, we recommend powdercoating the frame, tanks and fenders first then sending them to Rock and Roll. We recommend powdercoating over paint if you plan to ride it more than show it. On the other hand, if you want us to build a show bike, painting is recommended since our painter can mold the welds seamlessly.

Belt vs. Chain Final Drive |
We recommend a chain final drive if you are throttle happy that races around the town. On the other hand, if you just cruise, a belt would suffice. Chains tends to get things a little dirty/greasy and is a little more noisier with more vibration. Belts are cleaner and smoother. However, the differences in those key points are very minimal.

Upgrades/Changes |
The list of upgraded parts off the 'More Information' button on a bike's main page are the most popular options for that particular kit bike. However, we can include parts in the kit that are not listed, depending upon availability. Our unassembled kits are built-to-order and are custom quoted. The possiblilities are almost endless with swaping components. It's up to you to do your homework and figure out the component changes. When you order your kit, we assume you want the stock kit unless you say otherwise. In changing a component, we do not credit you full retail price for the stock part. Can You Really Build This Thing? |
Maybe?! Our kit bikes are the easiest way to build your own chopper. However, building a chopper is not an easy task. It's not a Lego set but it's not rocket science. What you'll need is an understanding of what every part of a motorcycle does and how it generally fits. We provide a 2 hour video showing you tips and tricks on how to assemble the chopper. Most components come with an instruction manual of how their component fits on the bike. You can call us for build support, but if you are calling everyday, our answers might become less graceful. If you've started the project but don't want to finish it, call up a Custom Chrome dealer or a mechanic you trust. If you still don't know wether or not you can build it, buy our video and see if you understand what we are saying.
