한국은 새로운 전자전 항공기 2대의 플랫폼으로 봄바디어 글로벌 6500을 선정했다.

캐나다 제조업체 봄바디어는 2026년 7월 14일 대한항공이 한국의 원거리 전자전 사업에 따라 개조하기 위해 봄바디어로부터 글로벌 6500 비즈니스 제트기 2대를 구매할 것이라고 발표했다.

이 항공기들은 공중 및 지상 위협의 직접적인 사정권 밖에서 작전하면서 적의 레이더와 통신, 기타 전자신호를 교란할 수 있도록 장비될 예정이다.

봄바디어는 대한항공 및 한국 방산업체 LIG넥스원과 협력해 수주 제안서를 마련했다. 이들 기업은 서울에서 열린 서명식에서 합의를 공식화했다.

봄바디어는 계약 금액과 인도 일정, 항공기에 탑재될 전자전 장비의 세부사항을 공개하지 않았다.

봄바디어 디펜스의 마이클 앵크너 글로벌 영업담당 부사장은 “글로벌 6500 항공기는 뛰어난 성능과 다목적성으로 인해 전 세계에서 수요가 높다.”라고 말했다.

한국은 이제 서로 다른 두 가지 특수임무 항공기 사업에서 글로벌 6500을 선정했다.

한국은 앞서 L3해리스가 주도하는 공중조기경보통제기 전력을 위해 글로벌 6500 4대를 선정했다. 이 항공기들은 영공을 감시하고 군사작전을 지휘하는 데 사용되는 센서와 임무체계를 탑재할 예정이다.

이번에 추가된 항공기 2대는 전자공격 임무를 수행하며, 이에 따라 한국은 두 사업을 통해 글로벌 6500 기반 군용기 총 6대를 운용할 계획이다.

글로벌 6500은 롤스로이스 펄 15 엔진 2기로 추진된다. 긴 항속거리와 고고도 성능, 넓은 객실 덕분에 군 고객들은 새로운 항공기를 처음부터 개발하지 않고도 센서와 운용자 콘솔, 통신장비를 설치할 수 있다.

이 비즈니스 제트기는 감시와 지휘통제, 전자전 임무용 플랫폼으로 점점 더 많은 관심을 받고 있다.

미 육군도 고정밀 탐지·활용체계(HADES) 정보·감시 사업의 플랫폼으로 글로벌 6500을 선정했다. 봄바디어는 2024년 이 사업을 위한 첫 번째 항공기를 인도했다.

South Korea has selected the Bombardier Global 6500 as the platform for a new pair of electronic warfare aircraft.

Korean Air will purchase two Global 6500 business jets from Bombardier for conversion under South Korea’s stand-off electronic warfare program, the Canadian manufacturer announced on July 14, 2026.

The aircraft will be equipped to disrupt enemy radar, communications and other electronic signals while operating beyond the immediate reach of air and ground threats.

Bombardier worked with Korean Air and South Korean defense company LIG Nex1 on the winning proposal. The companies marked the agreement during a signing ceremony in Seoul.

Bombardier did not disclose the contract value, delivery schedule or details of the electronic warfare equipment that will be installed aboard the aircraft.

“The Global 6500 aircraft is in demand around the world because of its performance and versatility,” said Michael Anckner, Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Bombardier Defense.

South Korea has now selected the Global 6500 for two separate special-mission aircraft programs.

The country previously chose four Global 6500s for an airborne early warning and control fleet led by L3Harris. Those aircraft will carry sensors and mission systems used to monitor the airspace and direct military operations.

The latest pair of aircraft will perform electronic attack missions, giving South Korea a planned fleet of six Global 6500-based military aircraft across the two programs.

The Global 6500 is powered by two Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engines. Its range, high-altitude performance and large cabin allow military customers to install sensors, operator consoles and communications equipment without developing a new aircraft from scratch.

The business jet has attracted growing interest for surveillance, command-and-control and electronic warfare missions.

The US Army also selected the Global 6500 for its High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System, or HADES, intelligence and surveillance program. Bombardier delivered the first aircraft for that effort in 2024.
