Lucent to Cut 10,000 Jobs as Its Losses Keep Mounting

Lucent Technologies, the largest maker of equipment for telephone companies, announced plans yesterday to cut an additional 10,000 jobs and forecast a larger-than-expected quarterly loss, signaling that its problems are far from over.

Lucent will take a $4 billion charge to reflect the costs associated with the cuts and the sinking fortunes of its pension fund.

주소를 쓸때는 마침표없이 두개의 알파벳으로 주를 표기하지요.

위의 뉴저지의 경우는 마침표있게 사용하는 것이 관용적 줄임말인것

같습니다. 즉, California를 관용적으로 줄일때 C.A. 라 하느냐.

그런것은 아니고 Cal. Calif. 라고 하는 것이 관용적 줄임말입니다.

이런것들은 하나하나 익히는 수 밖에 없다고 할 수 있겠죠.

The company said its loss for the quarter ended Sept. 30 would be about 65 cents a share, excluding charges and other one-time items. That compares with an earlier forecast of a loss of 45 cents a share. The quarterly loss will be the ninth consecutive one for Lucent.
