We consider the human body a mysterious microcosm. There are thing that can not be fully explained. Today, many scientist have been devoting themselves to prove this scientifically. One of the facts recently proven shows that the human body has a special function, which spontaneously generates a kind of magical substance, known as "endorphin".
This substance has become very familiar to Koreans since being introduced by Dr. Sang-Gu Lee, a few years ago. When the human body produces the endorphin, pleasure, comfort and happiness increases 10 times, more than when taking heroin or morphine. According to a recent report, a group of scientists found a material from a Tibetan lama's body, which is very similar to the endorphin, but 100 times stronger, called "dinorphin".
- Endorphin Removes Pain
A substance generated within the human body like endorphin is more often detected in a person who has overcome a lot of pain than those who haven't. Both discipliners who train themselves in a hard way and athletes who do strenuous sports say that they feel nothing but comfort, happiness and pleasure at the peak of the very unbearable pain. Take the example of marathoners. They have to run 42 km to finish the race. Most marathoners say that they experience pain when they reach the 20-25 km mark. After that, the pain goes away and their body becomes extremely light as if walking on a cloud.
A magical substance generated within the human body is the reaction of an external stimulus. When tired your body wants to take a rest, and when hungry your stomach signals. In other words, the human body responds in one way or another when stimulated. When you practice asceticism, your body will change its metabolism, which will remove all the pain. At this time, the body produces a anesthetic substance, the endorphin.
The Buddha said, "The pain and the pleasure is one, not two." Pleasure, comfort and happiness comes after we overcome the pain. This can be found in the science of human physiology. Controlling the mind removes the pain. This can be found in the science of human physiology.
- Controlling the mind removes the pain
Excessive greed brings more suffering. This is why the number of drug addicts have rapidly increased as the world has become more complicated. Buddha's precious lesson to discipline our minds will help remove greed and pain. It has become a very serious problem that most people seek pleasure by relying on special materials like drugs rather than practicing Buddha's lessons or ways to discipline their mind in search for the truth.
Two percent of morphine and 65 percent of heroin is directly absorbed by the brain and stimulates the central nerve system, bringing disillusionment. Then no energy is supplied to the brain for about 24 to 48 hours. The repetition of this state will damage the brain and the response system will be destroyed. Drugs ruin the body whether it is external or internal. That's the danger of using the drug.
Drugs are materials which are addictive and hard to quit after the first attempt. Your body is a bowl containing the Buddha, so self-discipline will make you stand on your own two feet. You can surely cut off any harmful temptation if you keep praying. While in prayer, your body spontaneously generates a special substance which makes you happy. You don't even need to depend on any drugs or alcohol to feel such pleasure. Drug will only make your soul dependent and feeble. You will lose the sense of self-determination and become under the control of drugs.
Life is a series of facing and overcoming lots of obstacles. How you tackle them will define your body and soul. Therefore, it is very important to make the right choice in overcoming the obstacles, whether practicing with religious efforts and sound mind, or evading the situation with a temporary settlement.
- Enlightenment brings the pleasure of Nirvana
The Buddha said, "Attaining enlightenment leads to the pleasure of Nirvana". The Buddha, the strictest and superior disciplinarian of all, might have generated a huge amount of dinorphine or something similar to it. His body and soul might have felt the greatest pleasure uncomparable to the mere pleasure from taking drugs. At the state of Nivana, we see the world in it's true beauty. The whole universe as well as the human sensory system is seen in a totally different dimension. The Buddha is the master of our body and is always within us. He enables us to endure all the painful agonies as we go through the oceans of suffering. "Confront and face all the agonies and unbearable pain, then discipline yourself" said the Buddha. Pleasure from practicing Buddha's way goes beyond the pleasure from drugs. Leading an ernest life within the Buddha will consolidate our faith in Buddha and realize His teaching for this world.
