[ Revelation 21:1 - 21:5 ] - hymn 246 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!" Revelation 21:5 Gazing out my open study window, I hear birds chirping and hear and see the wind gently blowing in the trees. Bales of hay dot my neighbor’s newly tilled field, and large, white cumulus clouds stand out in contrast to the brilliant blue sky. I’m enjoying a little bit of paradise—except for the almost incessant noise of the traffic that runs past our property and the slight ache in my back. I use the word paradise lightly because though our world was once completely good, it no longer is. When humanity sinned, we were expelled from the garden of Eden and the ground was “cursed”(seeGen.3). Since then the Earth and everything in it has been in “bondage to decay.” Suffering, disease, and our deaths are all a result of humankind’s fall into sin(Rom.8:18–23). Yet God is making everything new. One day His dwelling place will be among His people in a renewed and restored creation—“a new heaven and a new earth”—where “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”(Rev. 21:1–4). Until that day we can enjoy the bright splashes and sometimes wide expanses of breathtaking beauty we see around us in this world, which is just a small foretaste of the “paradise” that will be. —Alyson Kieda		[ 요한계시록 21:1 - 21:5 ] - 찬송가 246 장 보좌에 앉으신 이가 이르시되 보라 내가 만물을 새롭게 하노라 요한계시록 21:5 서재에서 열린 창밖을 바라보면 새들이 지저귀는 소리가 들리고, 바람 소리와 함께 나무 사이로 살랑대는 바람이 보입니다. 이웃의 새로 경작된 밭에 가지런히 묶여 있는 짚 더미와 커다랗고 새하얀 뭉게구름이 눈부시게 파란 하늘에 대조해 아름답게 드러나 보입니다. 나는 지금 하나의 작은 낙원을 즐기고 있습니다. 집 앞을 지나는 자동차들의 그칠 줄 모르는 소음과 가벼운 허리 통증만 없다면 말입니다. 한때는 이 세상이 완전히 좋은 곳이었기 때문에 ‘낙원’이라는 말을 쉽게 쓰고 있지만, 이젠 더 이상 그런 곳이 아닙니다. 인간이 죄를 지었을 때 에덴동산에서 쫓겨났고 땅은 ‘저주’를 받았습니다(창 3장 참조). 그때부터 이 땅과 이곳에 있는 모든 것들은 ‘쇠락의 굴레’에 놓이게 되었습니다. 고통과 질병과 우리의 죽음은 모두 다 인간이 죄에 빠진 결과입니다(롬 8:18-23). 그러나 하나님은 만물을 새롭게 하십니다. 때가 되면 하나님의 처소가 회복되어 새로워진 모습으로 주의 백성 가운데 있게 될 것입니다. 그곳은 “사망이 없고 애통하는 것이나 곡하는 것이나 아픈 것이 다시 있지 아니하고 처음 것들이 다 지나간” “새 하늘과 새 땅”입니다(계 21:1-4). 그날이 올 때까지 우리는 아름다운 장면들과 때로는 넓게 펼쳐진 세상의 숨 막히는 장관을 보고 즐거워할 수 있습니다. 이는 다가올 “낙원”을 조금이나마 미리 맛보는 것입니다.

• Dear Lord, thank You that in this world that can seem ugly with sin and decay You allow us to see glimpses of beauty. God is making all things new. 18. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. 20. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21. that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. 22. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 1. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." 5. He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

• 사랑하는 주님, 죄와 사망으로 일그러진 이 세상에서도 아름다움을 맛보게 하시니 감사합니다. 하나님은 모든 것을 새롭게 하고 계신다. 18. ○생각하건대 현재의 고난은 장차 우리에게 나타날 영광과 비교할 수 없도다 19. 피조물이 고대하는 바는 하나님의 아들들이 나타나는 것이니 20. 피조물이 허무한 데 굴복하는 것은 자기 뜻이 아니요 오직 굴복하게 하시는 이로 말미암음이라 21. 그 바라는 것은 피조물도 썩어짐의 종 노릇 한 데서 해방되어 하나님의 자녀들의 영광의 자유에 이르는 것이니라 22. 피조물이 다 이제까지 함께 탄식하며 함께 고통을 겪고 있는 것을 우리가 아느니라 23. 그뿐 아니라 또한 우리 곧 성령의 처음 익은 열매를 받은 우리까지도 속으로 탄식하여 양자 될 것 곧 우리 몸의 속량을 기다리느니라 1. 또 내가 새 하늘과 새 땅을 보니 처음 하늘과 처음 땅이 없어졌고 바다도 다시 있지 않더라 2. 또 내가 보매 거룩한 성 새 예루살렘이 하나님께로부터 하늘에서 내려오니 그 준비한 것이 신부가 남편을 위하여 단장한 것 같더라 3. 내가 들으니 보좌에서 큰 음성이 나서 이르되 보라 하나님의 장막이 사람들과 함께 있으매 하나님이 그들과 함께 계시리니 그들은 하나님의 백성이 되고 하나님은 친히 그들과 함께 계셔서 4. 모든 눈물을 그 눈에서 닦아 주시니 다시는 사망이 없고 애통하는 것이나 곡하는 것이나 아픈 것이 다시 있지 아니하리니 처음 것들이 다 지나갔음이러라 5. 보좌에 앉으신 이가 이르시되 보라 내가 만물을 새롭게 하노라 하시고 또 이르시되 이 말은 신실하고 참되니 기록하라 하시고
