1. 칠월 곧 그 달 이십일일에 {주}의 말씀이 선지자 학개를 통하여 임하니라. 이르시되,

In the seventh [month], in the one and twentieth [day] of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying, 

2. 이제 스알디엘의 아들 유다 총독 스룹바벨과 요세덱의 아들 대제사장 여호수아와 백성 중의 남은 자들에게 말하여 이르기를,

Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

3. 너희 가운데 남아 있는 자로서 처음의 영광 중에 있던 이 집을 본 자가 누구냐? 이제 그것이 너희에게 어떻게 보이느냐? 그것과 비교하면 그것이 너희 눈에 보잘것없지 아니하냐?

Who [is] left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? [is it] not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

4. {주}가 말하노라. 오 스룹바벨아, 그러할지라도 이제 마음을 강하게 할지어다. 오 요세덱의 아들 대제사장 여호수아야, 마음을 강하게 할지어다. {주}가 말하노라. 이 땅의 모든 백성들아, 너희는 마음을 강하게 하고 일할지어다. 내가 너희와 함께하느니라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라.

Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I [am] with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

5. 너희가 이집트에서 나올 때에 내가 너희와 맺은 언약의 말에 따라 그처럼 내 영이 너희 가운데 머물러 있나니 너희는 두려워하지 말지어다.

[According to] the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

6. 만군의 {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 조금 있으면 내가 아직 한 번 더 하늘들과 땅과 바다와 육지를 흔들리라.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it [is] a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry [land];

7. 또 내가 모든 민족들을 흔들 터인즉 모든 민족들의 바라는 바가 이르리니 내가 이 집을 영광으로 채우리라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라.

And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

8. 은도 내 것이요, 금도 내 것이라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라.

The silver [is] mine, and the gold [is] mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

9. 나중에 지은 이 집의 영광이 이전에 있던 집의 영광보다 크리라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 내가 이곳에서 화평을 주리라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라.

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

10. 다리오의 제이년 구월 이십사일에 {주}의 말씀이 대언자 학개를 통하여 임하니라. 이르시되,

In the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth [month], in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

11. 만군의 {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 이제 제사장들에게 율법에 관하여 물으며 이르기를,

Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests [concerning] the law, saying,

12. 사람이 거룩한 고기를 자기 옷자락에 담았는데 그의 옷자락이 만일 빵에나 국에나 포도즙에나 기름에나 어떤 음식물에 닿으면 그것이 거룩하겠느냐? 하라, 하니 제사장들이 대답하여 이르되, 그렇지 아니하리라, 하니라.

If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

13. 이에 학개가 이르되, 시체로 말미암아 부정하게 된 자가 이것들 중의 하나를 만지면 그것이 부정하겠느냐? 하니 제사장들이 대답하여 이르되, 그것이 부정하리라, 하더라.

Then said Haggai, If [one that is] unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

14. 이에 학개가 응답하여 이르되, {주}가 말하노라. 내 앞에서 이 백성이 그러하고 이 민족이 그러하며 그들이 손으로 하는 모든 일도 그러하고 그들이 거기서 드리는 것도 부정하니라.

Then answered Haggai, and said, So [is] this people, and so [is] this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so [is] every work of their hands; and that which they offer there [is] unclean.

15. 이제 너희에게 청하노니 이 날부터 거슬러 올라가고 {주}의 성전에 돌이 돌 위에 놓이기 전부터 거슬러 올라가 깊이 생각할지니라.

And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:

16. 그 날들 이후로는 사람이 이십 고르 곡식 더미에 이른즉 십 고르뿐이었고 포도즙 틀에서 쉰 그릇을 길으려고 포도즙 통에 이른즉 스무 그릇뿐이었느니라.

Since those [days] were, when [one] came to an heap of twenty [measures], there were [but] ten: when [one] came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty [vessels] out of the press, there were [but] twenty.

17. {주}가 말하노라. 내가 너희를 치되 너희 손으로 수고한 모든 것을 마름병과 곰팡이와 우박으로 쳤느니라. 그런데도 너희가 내게로 돌아서지 아니하였느니라.

I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye [turned] not to me, saith the LORD.

18. 이제 이 날부터 거슬러 올라가 깊이 생각하되 구월 이십사일 곧 {주}의 성전의 기초를 놓던 날로부터 거슬러 올라가 그것을 깊이 생각할지니라.

Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth [month, even] from the day that the foundation of the LORDS temple was laid, consider [it].

19. 씨앗이 아직도 곳간에 있느냐? 참으로 포도나무와 무화과나무와 석류나무와 올리브나무가 아직 열매를 맺지 못하였느니라. 이 날부터는 내가 너희에게 복을 주리라.

Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless [you].

20. 그 달 이십사일에 {주}의 말씀이 다시 학개에게 임하니라. 이르시되,

And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,

21. 유다 총독 스룹바벨에게 말하여 이르기를, 내가 하늘들과 땅을 흔들리라.

Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

22. 또 내가 왕국들의 왕좌를 뒤엎으며 이교도 왕국들의 세력을 멸하고 병거들과 거기 탄 자들을 뒤엎으리니 말과 거기 탄 자가 저마다 자기 형제의 칼에 쓰러지리라.

And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

23. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 오 스알디엘의 아들 내 종 스룹바벨아, {주}가 말하노라. 내가 너를 택하였으므로 그 날에 내가 너를 취하고 너를 인장으로 삼으리라. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라.

In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
