1:21 Meanwhile(그 동안에), the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple.

그 동안에 사람들은 스가랴를 기다리며 왜 그가 그렇게 성전에 오래 머물고 있는지 궁금해하고 있었다.

1:22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. 

그가 나왔을 때, 그는 그들에게 말할 수 없었다.

They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, 

그들은 그가 성전에서 환상을 보았다는 것을 깨달았다

for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

그는 계속해서 그들에게 손짓을 했지만, 말을 할 수는 없었다.

1:23 When his time of service was completed, 그가 섬김의 시간을 끝냈을 대 

he returned home. 그는 집으로 돌아갔다.

1:24 After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and for five months remained in seclusion.

이후 그의 아내 엘리자베스가 임신하여 5개월 동안 은둔 생활을 했다.

1:25 "The Lord has done this for me," she said. 그녀는 "주님께서 나에게 이렇게 행하셨다."고 말했다.

"In these days he has shown his favor and taken away my disgrace among the people.""

요즘 그분께서 호의를 베푸셔서 백성들 사이에서 나의 수치를 없애주셨다."

1:26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
1:27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.

여섯째 달에 하나님께서 천사 가브리엘을 갈릴리 지방 나사렛에 있는 한 처녀에게 보내셨는데,

그 처녀는 다윗의 자손인 요셉이라는 남자와 약혼한 사이였다.

The virgin's name was Mary. 그 처녀의 이름은 마리아였다.

1:28 The angel went to her and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

천사가 그녀에게 가서 "은혜를 크게 받은 자여, 평안하라! 주님께서 너와 함께 하신다."라고 말했다.

1:29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

마리아는 그의 말에 몹시 당황하며 이것이 도대체 무슨 인사인지 의아해했다.

1:30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.

그러나 그 천사가 그녀에게 "두려워 말라. 마리아야, 너는 하나님의 은혜를 입었다."라고 말했다.
