It is impossible for teachers to make an effective class and to give a lot of
fun to students at the same time during class.
Over the past few decades, many types of
educational teaching styles have been created by various types of teachers. So,
it’s been argued whether it’s impossible for teachers to make an effective class
and to give a lot of fun to students at the same time during class. Some people
might say that a teacher can’t be both effective and fun in one class because
he or she can’t be strict and easygoing at the same time. Meanwhile, others
might think otherwise. However, I am deeply convinced that everything depends
on how old the students are. Actually, I have a couple of reasons to support my
idea and will explain and develop them in the next following paragraphs below.
First and foremost, teachers can be both
effective and fun simultaneously when teaching students below the age of 12.
This is because students that are under 12 don’t have the ability to focus and
concentrate spontaneously. In order to make them participate in the class, they
must be attracted to the class through fun educational projects, games and
friends. So, making the class fun is the most effective way in teaching such
young students. Though some people might say that a teacher has to be strict to
make young students respect the teacher, this is not true because young students
tend to effectively follow fun teachers. To give an example for this, when I
was only 10 years old, I went to two types of schools. First, I went to a
school in the USA. In the school, many of the educational programs and classes
were specifically designed to teach students below 12 years old. So, when
teachers taught students, they made it as fun as possible. For instance, in
science class, we would always have an experiment and even make prototype of
the things we learned. In music class, before we learned a song, the teacher would
make us play a game that required us to run around the room when the music
played and stop when the music stopped. In math class, the teacher would always
make us learn with building blogs and Legos when calculating. So, because all
of the subjects were enjoyable, it was more effective because the things that
we learned lasted longer in our memories. However, when I moved back to my home
country, South Korea, and attended a very strict private school, the classes
weren’t effective. The teachers were strict, and they taught us as if they were
university professors. The classes were always kept quiet and we always had to
take a paper exam after each class. So, none of my classmates really paid any attention
to the classes. They were either sleepy or distracted to other things during
class. So, it’s obvious that whether a teacher can be both effective and fun simultaneously
or not depends on the age of the students in the class.
Moreover, teachers can’t be effective and
entertaining at the same time when the students are over the age of 13. This is
because being fun and entertaining tend to be a distraction to the education of
such older students. When students are over 13, they need to have a serious
atmosphere to truly concentrate and learn from their teachers. However, when a
class is too fun or easygoing, they might not be able to learn anything at all.
On the other hand, some people might say that it all depends on the subject
rather than the age because students over 13 learn some subjects better when in
a more interesting atmosphere. However, this is because they don’t think of
some subjects crucially. To give an example of this, when I was in high school,
one of my friends was planning on having major in sports industry in the
future. So, she was always excited about P.E. class and wanted to learn more about
sports. However, since many of the students in my school didn’t take P.E.
seriously, my P.E. teacher wanted us to have fun during the class to make us
participate more. So, he would allow us to do anything we wanted in P.E. class.
However, my friend, who wanted to have a career related with P.E. couldn’t
concentrate or learn anything properly because of the easygoing atmosphere.
Also, since most of the students in my school thought of math, literature, or
foreign language crucially, the teachers of such subjects were more effective
than fun. This is because high school students are too old to focus and learn
from a fun atmosphere. Therefore, it doesn’t really depend on the subject but
how old the students are.
