책을 쓴 저자의 이름이 Kevin Kwan 이라서 한국 사람인 줄 알았는데 싱가폴 사람이네요
A hilarious and heartwarming New York Times bestselling novel—now a major motion picture!
(New York Times

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Author Kevin Kwan Wanted for Draft Dodging
Kevin Kwan, author of the book underlying hit film “Crazy Rich Asians,” faces up
to three years in jail in his native Singapore.
He is accused of avoiding the country’s compulsory military service.
(한국인들도 이런 사람들이 있지 않나요?)
Singapore’s ministry of defense saying Kwan had avoided national service,
stayed away from the country without the required permission,
and had been turned down in his attempt to renounce his Singaporean citizenship in 1994.
Kwan has lived in the U.S. since about 1990.
All Singapore men are required to serve two years of national service in the army,
police or civil defense after the age of 18. If convicted of draft-dodging,
Kwan faces a three-year prison sentence and a fine up to $7,300 (S$10,000).
The film, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring an all-Asian cast, was released
by Warner Bros. in North America last week.
There it earned $34 million in its opening five days.
The Singapore defense ministry statement reads in full: “Mr. Kevin Kwan failed
to register for National Service (NS) in 1990, despite notices and letters sent
to his overseas address. He also stayed overseas without a valid exit permit.
Mr. Kwan is therefore wanted for defaulting on his NS obligations.
첫댓글 There is no question that Korea needs its military and it needs mandatory service..
Yes, I agree with you.
As long as we're facing against North Korea or even after the two Korea united,
we need strong military because of the countries around us
and what we had been through.
I didn't know that Singapore has the similar systems.
The writer of 'Crazy Rich Asians' has been wanted from Singapore for not
doing his NS obligation for his country.
But he's going to make a lots of money for sure.
Watch out for the '솔릭' and be careful.
Thanks for introducing us the hot movie.
I really want to see this movie.
Singapore also has two years of military service.
Thank you, 별하나님~
I do want to see the movie, too.
Or I might order the book.
Singapore has very similar military system like Korea that I didn't know.
The writer has been defaulted until now since he left his country in 1990.
Be careful and take care if you are in Korea(??)
I'm curious about this movie.
These days, there are some men who try to avoid military service.
so that has become a social issue.
I think this movie opened in Singapore a few days ago.
It will be in Korea sooner or later. I think.
It's not voluntary duty, but it's obligation to the country
and it's not fair for young people who are doing their dutiful obligation.
Hmmmm….
Writing ability, apart from sports ability or the likes, is not so declining
even if he is to be constrained in military service for a specific period.
That’s why I’d like to say that his attempt for evasion of military service looks no good...
Yes, no respect for him.
He is facing three years in jail time and a fine up to $7,300.
He had tried to give up Singapore's citizenship in order to avoid military duty.
