Medical Clearance
Students are required to be screened for and/
or vaccinated against MRSA, measles, mumps,
diphtheria, tetanus, influenza (annually), pertussis,
Varicella (Chicken Pox), Rubella, TB, and
Hepatitis B, as requirements for enrolment into
clinical practice units. If working with children
under the age of 18 for more than 5 days in
a year, you will need to obtain a Working with
Children Check. A Department of Health criminal
record screening and health screening must also
be obtained prior to students entering any clinical
placement. The Working with Children Check can
be completed during the course.

Commonwealth Supported
• Completion of a recognised degree
qualification (minimum 3 years duration).
• Enrolment is subject to applicants being
available to complete clinical requirements of
the course full-time.
• Evidence of completion of a Senior First
Aid Certificate and evidence of Hepatitis B
immunity.
International Applicants
• Completion of a recognised degree
qualification (minimum 3 years duration).
• English language competency as per university
entry requirements.
• Applicant will be required to demonstrate
competence in English by having achieved a
pass in one of the following tests:
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
with a minimum score of 550 written or 213
computer-based.
• British Council/GCE ‘O’ levels or GCE ‘A’ levels
• International English Language Testing System
(IELTS) with a minimum overall band of 6, with
a minimum of 6 each for speaking and writing
and 5.5 each for reading and listening.

Graduates from the Bachelor of Science
(Nursing) will be eligible for registration with
the Nurses Board of Western Australia as a
Division 1 Comprehensive Registered Nurse.
Course Organisation
Student learning is assessed from a
theoretical and clinical perspective. Theory
is assessed through problem-based
learning, exams, essays, case studies, group
work, and student presentations. Clinical
competence is assessed in laboratories using
simulation and in the clinical settings under
supervision.
The course is offered in a variety of flexible
learning modes which include face-to-face
teaching, workshops, seminars, clinical
practice, laboratories and online learning.
Students have access to student facilities that
may include common room, library computing
laboratories and web access depending on
whether your course is studied on campus or
by distance education.
The two-year full-time equivalent graduate pathway is offered to applicants who hold
a higher degree other than in nursing and want to undertake studies to obtain a
Bachelor of Science

Recognition of Prior
Learning (RPL)
Applicants will be awarded a minimum of 300
credits. Additional advanced standing may be
awarded depending on the discipline from which
the initial degree was awarded. Each application
will be considered individually.
Qualifications that are more than 7 years old cannot be considered for RPL.

Duration and Availability
The Bachelor of Science (Nursing) is normally
seven semesters in duration or three and
a half years of full time study or equivalent
part-time. In addition to the number of units
granted as exemptions, the length of time
to complete the course will also depend
upon the requisites relevant to each unit
and timetable availability of units. Units are
available both semesters in internal study
mode. International students studying
onshore will be required to undertake a
fulltime study load. The course is offered on
Curtin’s campuses at Bentley and Kalgoorlie,
Geraldton (TAFE) and Albany (TAFE)
campuses.
