Trusting God 하나님 신뢰하기

1-3

So how do we fit [what we know of Abraham], our first father in the faith, into this new way of looking at things?

our first father in the faith, 우리의 믿음의 아버지인 아브라함인데

If Abraham, by what he did for God, got God to approve him, he could certainly have taken credit for it. 

But [the story () we’re given] is a God-story, not an Abraham-story.

But [the story 그 이야기는 (that) we’re given 우리에게 주어진] is a God-story 하나님의 얘기지,

[What we read in Scripture] is, “Abraham entered /into what God was doing for him,

and that was the turning point.

He trusted God to set him right /instead of trying to be right on his own.”

[What we read in Scripture 성경에서 읽은 그것은] is, “Abraham 아브라함이 entered 참여했다

into what God was doing for him, 하나님께서 그를 위하여 하시는 일에

and that was the turning point. 그것이 전환점이었다

He trusted 신뢰했다 God 하나님께서  to set him right 그를 바로 세우시기를

/instead of trying to be right on his own.” 자기 스스로 올바로 되려 노력하는 대신에

If you’re a hard worker and do a good job, you deserve your pay;

 we don’t call [your wages] [a gift]. 

But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it’s something () only God can do,

and you trust him to do it

If you’re a hard worker 열심히 일하는 사람이고  and do a good job, 일을 잘한다면

you deserve your pay; 월급을 받을 자격이 있다 we don’t call your wages a gift. 월급을 선물이라 부르지 않는다

But if you see 본다/안다면 that the job is too big for you 할 일이 너무 크다/벅차다는 것을,

that it’s 그건 something 어떤 것이다 (that) only God can do, 하나님께서만 하실 수 있고 

and you 네가 trust 믿는 him to do it 그분께서 그일을 하실 거라

—you could never do it for yourself /no matter how hard and long you worked—

well, [that trusting-him-to-do-it] is [what gets you set right with God], by God.

Sheer gift.

  = however hard and long you worked—

  목보를 부정사구로 하면 목적이 부정사의 동작자가 되므로 의미가 달라짐

—you 너는 could never do it for yourself 네 스스로 결코 못한다

/no matter how hard and long you worked— 얼마나 힘들게 오래 일한다/노력한다 해도

well, 어쨌던 [that trusting-him-to-do-it 그분께서 할 것을 신뢰하는 그것은] is

[what gets you set right with God 너를 하나님과 바른 관계로 세워 주시는 그것이다], by God. 하나님에 의해서

Sheer gift. 전적인 선물이야

6-9 

David confirm‎s [this way of looking at it],

 saying that [the one //who trusts God to do the putting-everything-right /without insisting on having a say in it]

is one fortunate man:

is one fortunate man: 축복받은 사람이라고 (말하면서)

Fortunate those //whose crimes are whisked away, whose sins are wiped clean from the slate.
Fortunate the person //against whom the Lord does not keep score.

Do you think for a minute that this blessing is only pronounced over those of us

//who keep our religious ways and are circumcised?

Or do you think it possible that the blessing could be given /to those //who never even heard of our ways,

who were never brought up in the disciplines of God?

We all agree, don’t we, that it was by embracing what God did for him that Abraham was declared fit before God?

Now think: Was [that declaration] made

/before or after he was marked by the covenant rite of circumcision?

That’s right, before he was marked.

That means that he underwent circumcision /as evidence and confirmation /of what God had done

/long before /to bring him into this acceptable standing with himself,

an act of God () he had embraced with his whole life.

And it means /further that Abraham is father of all people //who embrace [what God does for them]

/while they are still on the “outs” with God, as yet unidentified as God’s, in an “uncircumcised” condition.

It is precisely these people in this condition who are called “set right by God and with God”!

Abraham is also, of course, father of those //who have undergone the religious rite of circumcision

not just because of the ritual

but because they were willing to live in the risky faith-embrace of God’s action for them,

the way () Abraham lived /long before he was marked by circumcision.

[That famous promise () God gave Abraham]—that he and his children would possess the earth—was not given

/because of something () Abraham did or would do.

It was based /on God’s decision /to put everything together for him,

which Abraham then entered when he believed.

If [those //who get what God gives them] only get it

by doing everything () they are told to do and filling out all the right forms /properly signed,

that eliminates personal trust completely and turns the promise /into an ironclad contract!

That’s not a holy promise; that’s a business deal.

  by doing everything (that) they are told to do 단지 하라고 시킨 모든 걸 하고

and filling out all the right forms /properly signed, 정확히 서명된 정식 서류를 기재함으로

that 그것은  personal trust 사적인 신뢰를 completely 완전히 eliminates 제거하고 and

the promise 약속을  into an ironclad contract 철저한 계약으로  turns 변하게 만든다

That’s not a holy promise; 그건 거룩한 약속이 아니다 that’s a business deal. 그건 상업적인 거래일뿐이다

[A contract /drawn up by a hard-nosed lawyer and with plenty of fine print]

only makes sure [that you will never be able to collect].

But if there is no contract in the first place, simply a promise

—and God’s promise at that—

you can’t break it.

  with plenty of fine print 세부조항으로 가득 찬 only 오직 makes sure 확실하게만 한다

that 절 내용을 즉 you 당신이 will never be able to collect 결단코 수급 못하도록

But 그러나 if 만약에  there is no contract 계약서가 없었다면 in the first place 애초부터

simply a promise 단순히 한 약속이고 and God’s promise 하나님의 약속이다 at that 첨언하자면

—you can’t break it. 그 약속을 당신이 깰 수는 없다 (약속을 받은 사람이 약속을 깰 처지가 아니지)

This is why the fulfillment of God’s promise depends entirely /on trusting God and his way, 

and then simply embracing [him and what he does]. 

God’s promise arrives as pure gift.

depends 달렸다 /on trusting God 하나님과 and his way 그분의 방식을 신뢰하기에

and then 그러고 나서  simply 단순히 embracing 즐겨 받는 것에 [him and what he does] 그분과 그분이 하시는 그 일을.

That’s the only way () everyone can be sure to get in on it, those //who keep the religious traditions

and those //who have never heard of them.

For Abraham is father of us all.

He is not our racial father—that’s reading the story backward.

He is our faith father.

For Abraham 왜냐면 아브라함이 is father of us all.  우리 모두의 아버지이기 때문이다

He 그는 is not our racial father 육체/인종적인 아버지가 아니다

—that’s 그건 reading the story backward. 성경 얘기를 거꾸로/과거로 읽는 것이다

He 그는 is our faith father. 우리의 믿음의 아버지이다

17-18 

We call Abraham “father” not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint, 

but because God made something out of Abraham /when he was a nobody.

Isn’t that [what we’ve always read in Scripture], God /saying to Abraham, “I set you up as father of many peoples”?

* somebody 대단한 사람

 but because 때문이다  God 하나님께서 made 만드신 something 무언가를 out of Abraham 아브라함으로부터

 Isn’t 아니냐 that 그것이 [what we’ve always read in Scripture], 우리가 성경에서 맨날 읽어 왔던 그것,

그것이란 God 하나님께서 /saying to Abraham, 아브라함에게 말씀하시되  “I 내가 set 세웠다 you up 너를 

as father of many peoples”? 많은 이의 아버지로

Abraham was first named “father” and then became a father

When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed /anyway,

deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw () he couldn’t do but on what God said () he would do.

And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples.

God himself said to him, “You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!”

19-25 

Abraham didn’t focus /on his own impotence and say,

“It’s hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child.”

Nor did he survey Sarah’s decades of infertility and give up.

He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise /asking cautiously skeptical questions.

The same thing gets said about us /when we embrace and believe [the One //who brought Jesus to life]

when the conditions were equally hopeless.

[The sacrificed Jesus] made us fit for God, set us right with God.
