Seogwipo sedimentary layer(서귀포층)
A sedimentary rock layer.,You can see it near Seogwipo Port in the south of Jeju. This layer is the oldest and lowest layer among the volcanic layers on Jeju Island.1.6 million years ago a volcano erupted in the sea at a depth of 100 meters around and volcanic rocks and ashes from the eruption were deposited and turned into rock-a sedimentary rock. This rock was still deep under the sea (under the ground). Something miraculous would have to happen to reveal that figure before our eyes. What miracle? The land must rise up. When tectonic plates collide and cause volcanoes and earthquakes, this land mass must rise up.This miracle happened and we can now see this sedimentary rock up close. The Seogwipo sedimentary layer was the cornerstone of Jeju land.
