[온유한 자는 복이 있나니][BLESSED ARE THE MEEK]-Mapagpakumbaba

K - 온유한 자는 복이 있나니 그들이 땅을 기업으로 받을 것임이요-마태복음 5:5

K - 영어에서 ‘온유한’(meek)이라는 단어가 지닌 한 가지 문제는 그것이 ‘약한’(weak)이라는 단어와 운율이 맞아서 사람들이 오랫동안 이 두 단어를 서로 연관 지어 생각해왔다는 사실입니다. 한 유명한 사전은 ‘온유한’의 두 번째 정의를 “지나치게 순종하는, 쉽게 받아들이는, 줏대가 없는, 생기가 없는”이라는 뜻으로 정의합니다. 그래서 어떤 사람들은 왜 예수님이 “온유한 자는 복이 있나니 그들이 땅을 기업으로 받을 것임이요”(마 5:5)라고 말씀하셨는지 의문을 가집니다.

헬라어학자 W. E. 바인은 성경에서 말하는 온유는 “하나님이 우리를 다루시는 것을 선한 것으로 받아들이며, 따라서 아무런 분쟁이나 저항 없이 받아들이는” 하나님을 향한 태도라고 말합니다. 우리는 하나님 아버지의 뜻을 기꺼이 따르는 데서 기쁨을 찾으셨던 예수님에게서 이 온유함을 볼 수 있습니다.

바인은 계속해서 “주님이 분명히 드러내시고 신자들에게 권면하신 이 온유는 능력의 열매이다.…주님은 ‘온유한’ 분이셨다. 왜냐하면 주님은 하나님의 무한한 자원을 마음대로 쓰실 수 있었기 때문이다.”라고 말했습니다. 주님은 자신의 십자가 처형을 막기 위해 하늘의 천사들을 부르실 수도 있었습니다.

예수님은 지치고 무거운 짐 진 제자들에게 “나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고 내게 배우라 그리하면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리니”(마 11:29)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 온유함의 완전한 모델이셨습니다.

우리가 지치고 힘들어할 때, 예수님은 우리를 이끌어 온유한 모습으로 하나님을 신뢰하셨던 주님의 평화를 우리가 찾을 수 있게 하십니다.

E - One problem with the English word meek is that it rhymes with weak, and people have linked the two words together for years. A popular dictionary offers a secondary definition of meek as “too submissive; easily imposed on; spineless; spiritless.” This causes some people to question why Jesus would say, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matt. 5:5).

Greek scholar W. E. Vine says that meekness in the Bible is an attitude toward God “in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting.” We see this in Jesus who found His delight in doing the will of His Father.

Vine goes on to say that “the meekness manifested by the Lord and commended to the believer is the fruit of power. . . . The Lord was ‘meek’ because He had the infinite resources of God at His command.” He could have called angels from heaven to prevent His crucifixion.

Jesus told His weary, burdened followers, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [meek] and lowly in heart, and you will fi-nd rest for your souls” (Matt. 11:29). He was the perfect model of meekness.

T - Ang isang problema sa salitang ‘mapagpakumbaba’ at salitang ‘mahina’ ay iniisip ng ibang tao na magkapareho lang ang kahulugan ng dalawang salitang ito. Ayon naman sa isang diksyunaryo, ang ibig sabihin ng salitang mapagpakumbaba ay mahina ang loob at umaayon na lang sa gusto ng iba. Kung gayon bakit sinasabi ni Jesus na mapalad ang mga mapagpakumbaba: “Mapalad ang mga mapagpakumbaba dahil mapapasa-kanila ang mundo”(Mateo 5:5).

Ayon kay W.E. Vine na isang dalubhasa sa Biblia, ang pagsunod at pagtanggap natin sa lahat ng iniuutos ng Diyos nang walang reklamo ay pagpapakumbaba. Ipinakita ni Jesus ang kapakumbabaang ito nang sundin Niyang lahat ang kagustuhan ng Kanyang Amang nasa langit.

Nagpakumbaba si Jesus dahil kahit makapangyarihan Siya at kaya Niyang gamitin ang lahat ng bagay nang ayon sa Kanyang nais ay hindi Niya iyon ginamit. Puwede Niya sanang utusan ang mga anghel para hindi Siya maipako sa krus pero hindi Niya ito ginawa.

Sinabi ni Jesus sa mga mananampalatayang nahihirapan at namomroblema, “Sundin ninyo ang mga utos Ko at matuto kayo sa Akin dahil mabait Ako at mababang loob. Makakapagpahinga kayo”(Mateo 11:29). Si Jesus ang pinakamagandang halimbawa ng pagpapakumbaba. Kapag namomroblema at napapagod na tayo, inaanyayahan tayo ni Jesus na magtawala sa Kanya nang may kapakumbabaan.  

K - 하나님은 두 개의 집을 갖고 계신다. 하나는 하늘나라에, 다른 하나는 온유하고 감사하는 마음에 갖고 계신다.
