The ritual performed to resolve grievances and guide souls to the afterlife took place in Goyangteo Village, Songjeon-ri, Hyucheon-myeon, Hamyang-gun—a location that once served as a transit point for partisans moving up and down the mountains.
The name "Hyucheon" implies a place where even the stream pauses to rest. It is a remote village nestled deep in the mountains beneath the western ridge of Mt. Wabulsan (1,213.8m) and was historically a center for *hanji* (traditional Korean paper) production.
The place holds a message for fellow practitioners and students—weary in body and mind from the chaos of these turbulent times—to follow the meaning of the name "Hyucheon" and find a moment of respite for their hearts and bodies.
Nearby lies Yongyudam Park, a site evoking the realm of immortals; it suggests that a dragon, having frolicked in the clear waters, is now poised to reveal itself to the real world. Situated at the mountain's skirt east of Byeoksongsa Temple, the site corresponds to the right wing of a "Blue Crane Ascending to the Sky" formation. Nestled at the foot of the mountain, it is an ideal gathering spot for resentful spirits; with its old, abandoned shacks, it serves as a hideout for wandering mountain ghosts. I am the 72nd-generation descendant of the Holy Mother of Silla’s founding king; that Holy Mother is the Mountain Spirit of Mt. Jirisan.
As Mountain Spirits—deities of the earth—rank lower than Sangje (the Supreme Deity of Heaven), they do not presume to show their faces directly to me; thus, rituals previously dedicated to the mountain were conducted as *Sancheonje* (rites honoring both mountain and stream). Today, however, the ceremony is a *Haewon-gosa* (a ritual to resolve deep-seated grudges and grievances) for spirits harboring profound resentment, and the proceedings are conducted with the formal protocol of three ritual bows.
Recently, a man named Park Je-hyeon (of the Park clan) became known as a *doin* (Taoist practitioner) who, having received the energy of the Mt. Jirisan Mountain Spirit, possessed the spiritual insight to master the principles of *Myeongri* (destiny analysis).
Park Je-hyeon inherited the fortune of the founding king’s Holy Mother—the Mountain Spirit of Mt. Jirisan—and shares renown with Park Sa-ju as a peerless figure; furthermore, Park Sang-hwa is a sage and philosopher who published a book interpreting *Jeong-yeok* (Correct Changes)—a profound system of cosmic principles that cannot be grasped without exceptional spiritual insight. Figures such as Park Jung-bin (founder of Won Buddhism), Christian Elder Park Tae-sun, Park Han-kyung (founder of Daesun Jinrihoe), and Park Bo-hi (a prominent Unification Church leader known in the U.S.) all share the lineage of the Mountain Spirit of Jirisan. In particular, President Park Chung-hee—who bore the heavenly mandate to revolutionize both the spiritual and human realms through the cosmic principles of Yin and Yang—stands out as a pivotal figure in this mission.
The site where the ritual ceremony was performed is oriented along the *In-Shin* axis (facing from the Northeast/Tiger direction toward the Southwest/Monkey direction); this alignment symbolizes the *Gyeong-in* year associated with the "Parents of Heaven and Earth" (the Master of Yeongsindang and the *Cheongnim Dosa*), who usher in a new era for the world.
Philosophically, this signifies the Earth Mother (*Gon-to*) guiding the transition into the realm of Amitabha Buddha. The *In* (Tiger) represents the "Lord of the Mountain." The site is oriented to face the spirit of Jirisan at Nogodan. This day was Liberation Day (August 15), falling on the *Byeong-o* Year, *Byeong-sin* Month, *Sin-yu* Day, and the *Gye-sa* and *Gap-o* Hours. It was a time—spanning the *Sa*, *O*, and *Mi* hours—when civilization, having emerged from the blast furnace as a shining finished product, was manifesting in reality. It signified the birth of the future "autumn world" (represented by the *Sin-geum* metal energy) from the bosom of God—the "Young Lamb" of the *Mi-to* earth energy. Furthermore, as the saying goes that "humanity arises at the *In* hour," it marked the moment for the workers to awaken from their slumber and rise up.
At Gyeryong Mogudang, I had ordered half a *mal* (a traditional unit of volume) of *injeolmi* rice cakes, thinking of the hungry "starving ghosts" (*agwi*), but I completely forgot to pick them up; it was only after receiving a phone call from the rice cake shop owner that I realized my oversight—a reminder that the character for "forgetting" (*mang*) contains the meaning of "a heart of death."
To avert this "death" (the failure to fulfill the offering), Dogwang from Gwangju made a detour to Namwon to procure the cakes instead; this act embodied the sincere devotion (*jeongseong*) of Namwon Dotong-dong—the source and origin of the "Parents of Heaven and Earth" (Yeongsin-dangju).
The timing also aligned perfectly with the lunch hour: the moment arrived at the *Gap-o* hour, just after the *Gye-sa* hour had passed. As the day’s divination pointed from the *Lei-Di Yu* (Thunder over Earth) hexagram to the *Huo-Di Jin* (Fire over Earth) hexagram, the "Eldest Son" (represented by the *Zhen* trigram) ascended Mt. Jirisan to spiritually secure a vision of the future; the outcome—symbolized by the sun rising over the earth—signifies the realization of a world illuminated by brilliant light. A ritual ceremony (*Gosa-chiseong*) was performed as part of this grand undertaking.
Because Mt. Jirisan is the final mountain of South Korea and holds deep, lingering sorrow, a ritual for the resolution of grievances and the deliverance of spirits (*Haewon-Cheondo*) was conducted to untangle the knots of bitter resentment. Spirits that had long been bound within the mountain—effectively trapped in a hellish state—were enabled to cross the mountain's boundary; the gates were opened so that North Korean spirits might find their way back home, and all spirits could freely travel to their respective ancestral realms in the celestial sphere. Through this deliverance ritual held around Liberation Day, all such spirits attained their own liberation.
The participation of twenty-four individuals—aligning with the "Number of Twenty-Four" (*Iship-sajang*)—symbolizes the establishment of a foundation for the initial mobilization toward a great mission for the world, marking the completion of preliminary preparations. One must forsake all political parties—this one and that one alike—and go to the house of the *Mudang* (Shaman) to offer prayers; one must place one’s faith in the *Cheonji-gongsa* (Great Work of Reordering Heaven and Earth) and follow *Mogu-dang*. The master of *Mogu-dang* is the *Cheonji-mudang* (Shaman of Heaven and Earth).
