The HEAT returned to the playoffs a season ago, powered by a motivated Dwyane Wade. The HEAT made virtually no major moves this off-season so the question is can another training camp together and internal growth from their young players get them further along than the other teams in the Eastern Conference?
Here is a preview of what to expect this season, and what we here at HOOPSWORLD see as we look into the state of the Miami HEAT in 2009-2010.

Dwyane Wade showed the world he was back last season playing MVP caliber basketball. However, he often seemed inclined to try and do it by himself. The question this season is whether or not Wade has enough help on the roster to compete in a very tough Southeast Division. Jermaine O'Neal is going to have to stay healthy, Mario Chalmers must continue to build on what he did last season, and Michael Beasley must have his head right this season for the HEAT to be a team that even sniffs one of the top four seeds in the East.

It's unfortunate that the HEAT weren't able to get a deal done to bring Carlos Boozer to town. That deal would very likely have ensured Dwyane Wade's long-term future in Miami. As it is, the HEAT will be counting on a healthy Jermaine O'Neal and steady improvements from youngsters like Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers to take them to the next level. Wade is a perennial MVP candidate - can his teammates rise to his level?

Dwyane Wade was just about the only offensive threat on this team last year and has made his displeasure with the direction of the franchise known over the course of this summer. If Jermaine O'Neal can play anywhere near the level that made him a six-time All-Star and Michael Beasley can put an inconsistent rookie season and tumultuous summer in his past this team will be a tough out come playoff time. Unfortunately for Head Coach Erik Spoelstra, this is a thin team that seems more geared for the summer of 2010 than this season.
와데는 지난시즌 단지 공격적에서 위협적이었어(응? 나 잘못번역한건가;;;) 그리고...(음;;; 이번시즌 프랜차이즈로서 기분좋게하지는 않았다라;;;) 만약 JO가 여섯번째 올스타가 될정도로(계속 이상한 말을 하네요;;;) 패스할래요;;; 전체적으로 부정적으로 의견을 쫙 깔고는 3위라고 하네요;;;;;;;;;;;;;

If the Miami HEAT are the fourth-best team in the division, it's a really tough division. Dwyane Wade is Dwyane Wade and there will be little most teams can do to stop him, but who knows how much Jermaine O'Neal has left in the gas tank. Quentin Richardson was a decent pickup, but this is still a team without an experienced point guard, and who knows if Michael Beasley will figure out how to behave himself. I think they're a playoff team, but with the Wizards playing competitively again they might see themselves seeded a little lower than they're used to.
4th Place Southeast Division

The HEAT are banking on a lot of development from within this season as they decided to preserve their cap space in 2010. Unfortunately for them most of the Southeast division has improved this offseason outside of the Charlotte Bobcats, while they've mostly stood pat. Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, and Daquean Cook are going to be better while Dwayne Wade will once again be an MVP candidate. However, with their roster as it is it's tough to see how the HEAT finish any better than fourth since it's unknown how much better the younger players will be and how reliable guys like Jermaine O'Neal and Quentin Richardson will be.
4th Place Southeast Division
4th Place Southeast Division
Top Offensive Player:
Dwyane Wade. After missing a total of 62 games over the 2006-07 and 2007-08 season with shoulder and knee issues, a healthy Wade played in 79 games last year. And he was a beast, leading the league in scoring with 30.2 points per game. He ranked 2nd in the league in steals per game (2.2) and averaged a team-high 7.5 assists, adding 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. His Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 30.4 was second only to LeBron James. No surprise that the best season of his career landed him in 3rd place of the MVP race and All-Star honors.
Top Defensive Player:
Dwyane Wade. He made history for being the first player at 6'4" or under to record at least 100 blocks in a single season. And he finished third in voting for the Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. Wade may well be on track to become one of the best two-way players since Mr. Jordan.
Top Playmaker:
Dwyane Wade. Proficient on both ends of the court, when Wade isn't fearlessly slashing his way to the rim, he's dishing, stealing, or blocking it seems. According to John Schuhmann of NBA.com, Wade either scored or assisted on 44.2% of Miami's points last year. This puts him in 6th place, tied with Wilt Chamberlain (1961-62 season), in the NBA's history books. With this kind of workload, you can just about look past his 2nd place finish in turnovers last year.
Top Clutch Player:
Dwyane Wade. Are we seeing a trend here? Wade does everything for this team. When the game is on the line, the ball better be in Wade's hands for the HEAT to be in the best position to win. He ranked fourth in the
league last year in highest points per 48 minutes of clutch time.
The Unheralded Player:
Udonis Haslem. He's the gritty behind-the-scenes guy every team needs. Undersized for his position, his length and skills allow him to do the dirty work on defense and succeed even when he's overmatched. He grabbed 8.2
boards per game last year, and had the team's highest field goal percentage at .518% with 10.6 ppg.
Best New Addition:
Quentin Richardson. Actually, he's the only new addition since Miami's two second-round draft picks, Patrick Beverley and Robert Dozier, are playing in Greece this year. After the summer shuffle landed him in Miami, Richardson is
an intriguing addition, with career averages of 11.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg. He just may work himself into a considerable role with his three-point shooting and ability to create offense during those times Wade is on the bench.
Who We Like
1- Mario Chalmers: Miami obtained the 2008 second round draft pick, and promptly threw him in to sink or swim. The point guard started every game, and while he struggled with consistent play and confidence at times, he also showed promise for the long-term. He ranked fourth in the league (and first in rookies) with 2.0 steals per game, and averaged 10.0 points, 4.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds. Chalmers' nine steals in his fourth NBA game put him in Miami's record books.
2- Jermaine O'Neal: He's not the player he used to be, but O'Neal landed in Miami last February and established a strong defensive presence. He earned respectable numbers - 13 ppg and 5.4 rpg - including an average of two blocks per game. He's been hitting the gym all summer and spent eight weeks with Tim Grover (Wade's well-known trainer). With his history though, the threat of injury/lost games will always be a concern.
3- Dwyane Wade: With a record of 43-39, Wade led the HEAT to a fifth place seed in the Eastern Conference and through a 4-3 first round loss to the Hawks - an amazing feat considering the 15-67 record the year before. But one man, even super-human Wade, can't win a championship alone. Even if he was the only player in league history to have recorded at least 2,000 points, 500 assists, 150 steals and 100 blocks in a season (it's true, he did this last season). His objective is clear. He prefers to stay with Miami, but he wants to see solid additions to this team that gives him a legitimate shot at another championship ring.
4- Alonzo Mourning: Recently retired after 15 years seasons in the league, (averaged 17.1 points, 8.5 rebounds), Mourning returned to the team over the summer as an executive, Vice President of Player Development to be exact. Among other duties, he will work off the court in community relations and he will mentor young players, specifically Michael Beasley. Welcome back, 'Zo.
5- Michael Beasley: Let's look at what Beasley brought to the HEAT last year. He ranked second to Wade in the following categories: points per game (13.9), total points (1123), field-goal attempts (11.8) and field-goals made (5.6), USG% (27.7) and PER (17.2). He averaged 5.4 boards for the year (and 7.3 in the playoffs). True, the numbers aren't particularly impressive for the 2008 No. 2 draft pick, but Beasley didn't average huge minutes per game, ranking 7th on the team. In fact, look what happened in April when he did get more minutes: 20.6 ppg at .553% and 8.6 rpg. Potential is the word for Beasley if he can concentrate on his development and maturity on and off the court. He'll be in place when training camp begins next week, and the HEAT are expecting him to play a bigger role this year. It sounds like he has support from all directions in the organization to help deal with the summer goings-on.

Strengths
The significant cap space available in 2010 means Miami is poised to make the biggest splash of any team. President Pat Riley is stashing cash to add one or two stellar players around Dwyane Wade, while paying him big to re-sign. Of course, having Wade is the biggest strength of this team, period. One of Miami's priorities is developing the ability of players to take on multiple positions. Daequan Cook has spent considerable time this summer working on ball-handling skills and expanding his game to develop into a true combo guard. Beasley has also been charged with focusing on his small forward skills so that he can play both forward positions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weaknesses
Simply put, Wade is relied upon to do too much for this team. The front court leaves much to be desired with Joel Anthony and Jamaal Magliore backing up O'Neal. The HEAT ranked 28th in the league in total rebounds last year. And it's doubtful that Chris Quinn can handle point guard duties if Chalmers, still learning himself, goes down.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Burning Question
Can Dwyane Wade carry the HEAT again? After a history-making individual 2008-09 performance, does Wade have it in him to repeat at the same level? Not just the physical demands of playing as hard as he plays for another season (he's averaged 66 games per season in his six years playing), but he'll need to find the motivation of continued excellence on a team that did basically nothing to improve in the offseason. How was Wade affected, beyond his decision not to sign a contract extension, when his pleas for Lamar Odom, even Allen Iverson and Carlos Boozer, failed? The HEAT may well make the playoffs again on Wade's back, but the fact is that other East teams made offseason moves designed to get to them to the top, while Wade's team remained quiet.
데 말이지;;;;;;;; 히트는 웨이드가 맘을 다잡고 다시 플옵으로 갈수 있을지도... 그러나 다른 동부팀은 웨이드의 히트가 멈춰있는 사이에 top이 되기위해 오프시즌도안 움직였단 말이지;;;;;
쓰다보니 발번역정도가 아니라 제대로 의미전달이 안되는 글이 되버렸군요;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
죄송합니다~ 오닐님이 적당히 갈무리해주시겠죠^^;;
"Dwyane Wade was just about the only offensive threat on this team last year " <-- 이 구절은 웨이드가 이 팀에서의 유일한 공격적위협이었다는게 맞는거 같네요
